MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 9, 2022

Seamus Power

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How about that, another 74 today, good finish.

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah a lot of the same to be honest, hit a lot of good shots. Yeah, it's just tough to make birdies out here. At least I'm finding that. Hit some more good shots on the back nine there. Did the exact same thing on 12 and 15.

Yeah, just one of those days. And then haven't been able to quite make the odd little 20-footer to keep me in it, so a little more frustration. Nice to get a birdie on the last, being so be back for tomorrow.

Q. Getting two more swings at this golf course and again maybe the front nine tomorrow you'll find a birdie out there, too, is it good for you to get this experience in your first major to have the extra days to try to find something?

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. I was sure going to get a birdie. I hit the pin on my second shot on the second day and I still couldn't make a birdie.

Yeah, no, absolutely. Like Simon and I were talking last few holes kind of what we're learning, this and that. We played with Marc, too, so a lot of good results here and just seeing what he's doing on some of the holes. To be honest, today is just tough going.

Again, hit a lot of good things, but, yeah, you're just trying to learn tweaks here and there. Greens definitely a little bit more speed today, so a couple spots even in the practice rounds I was like, oh, this won't be so bad, all of a sudden weren't looking too great.

But, yeah, it's fun. It's going to be more fun again tomorrow. Hopefully I can get something going early and can keep it going.

Q. You mentioned the par-5s, haven't quite cracked the code. Still a bit of a puzzle for you?

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, today I played them well. Like I said, I hit two really good shots into 2.

I got a little unlucky and kind of ran into an awkward spot.

Q. Hit the pin on 2.

SEAMUS POWER: Hit the pin, yeah, but maybe it just hit the hole. It jarred it way over the back right.

And then hit two great shots on 8 and did just roll off the back of the green and it's steep there.

And then I thought I hit a good putt coming up and over the hill and just carried a little bit too much speed, goes down the ridge, and I've 25 feet for birdie and don't make that.

And then I actually hit 13 and hit a terrible second shot but laid up by mistake and then hit a good wedge shot. But 15, 15 has 0got me two days in a row. It feels like you're standing on the top of the hill and it's like blowing like this and, again, my 7-wood went the same distance it would do with no wind. It's happened to me two days in a row.

I'm not even sure what I would do differently, maybe just lay it up. The position I was in I figured it's worth a shot to see if I can -- I thought if it was in the air I might make an eagle and end up with a 6.

Q. That one on 15 hit the downslope.

SEAMUS POWER: Just cleared the green, yeah. Yeah, I mean, shouldn't -- I mean, I hit that 240 on the range this morning. It was 245 to the back edge into that wind. It's a bizarre one, nit that's one of the things with this course. When you go down into the valley there the breeze is doing different things.

You want to do what you think it's doing, but it's not always going to do for you. It got me again a couple times today. Just trying to learn and still hit some good shots?

Q. What's par out there today? It's freezing cold.

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, those guys -- like it was definitely warmer an hour ago. It's really dropped off there. I don't know what the forecast is, but it's tough going. The greens are definitely a little quicker and you've just got to hit it in the proper spots.

With the temperature drop ping and the greens speeding up and the winds high, I think it's going to play difficult.

I'm hoping it's going to play a little -- like might fall into Shane's hands a little bit. We obviously grew up playing a lot of this, but we don't courses like this in the wind. So it's going to be a battle. There is going to be guys that will get some good breaks, bad breaks out there, so I think you'll need a little bit of that.

And especially down the bottom of the course on the back nine you're going to have to hit some very good shots.

Q. Could you sell a 72 for all the money today?

SEAMUS POWER: I would say Scottie Scheffler might take it. I mean, there is still chances out there, though. There will be a lot of guys will birdie two; wind of the right.

3 is a gettable pin.

6 is a gettable pin.

8 obviously gettable.

9 is not too bad.

But I think it's the back nine where it's tough today, 10, 11, 12, if you can get through. But even 13 and 15 there is still going to be chances. You still have to hit good shots.

I think that's what makes this course so great, is like the chances are still there if you hit a really good shot. It's not like other courses where you're battling all the time. The opportunities are there. It's just trying it take advantage is tough.

Q. Have you talked to Shane at all?

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, I mean, I sent him a text last night. Look, I'm not going to mess with him. He's obviously in -- he's a major champion, he knows what he's doing. I saw his pitch in on 10 on TV so I sent him a text saying nice shot and good luck today.

Yeah, obviously my chances to win have gone out window, so hopefully Shane or Rory can kind of make a run.

Q. Been a long time. I mean, Ireland has never had a Masters champion.

SEAMUS POWER: No.

Q. What would it mean if he gets himself into the mix tomorrow and has real shot on Sunday?

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, it would be incredible. As you said, there has never been an Irish winner here, so it would be something special.

Shane has a knack for having these amazing moments in golf. Nothing would surprise me with him. Hopefully -- Scottie is going to take a lot of catching. He's on an unbelievable run of form and he doesn't look like he's going to get too bothered by the moment.

But we've seen guys in this position before. It's not easy to win, especially not easy to win here. So it's going to be a battle for two days.

Q. (Indiscernible)

SEAMUS POWER: Yeah, I mean, I don't think it's going to be as windy tomorrow. Could be main a few more chances. But it's the same thing. You're going to try to be aggressive, but you can only pick your certain spots.

So it's going to be trying it hit it in some fairways on some of the keys holes and taking advantage from there. You're still going to have to play away from some pins. Still going to have to play defensive in certain spots, just trying to put a good round together.
