MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 8, 2022

Cameron Smith

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Good fight back there today.

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, it was good. Pretty brutal day out there today. Lots of quality golf shots that go to 40, 50 feet, and it gets quite frustrating at times. Just hung in there and made a few nice swings in there. Good for a couple of birdies.

Q. Absolutely. The shot, the pitch on 15, that sort of turned and ran like 16, 17, all on quality iron shots.

CAMERON SMITH: No, it was all really good today. Like I said, I feel as though I hit lots of really quality shots into the green and just really didn't have any birdie opportunities. It was so windy and gusty out there, quite hard to get the speed on the greens as well.

Yeah, it was, I think, 2-over in the end. Probably wasn't the worst.

Q. You're under par. Anyone under par has a chance. Your mindset for tomorrow?

CAMERON SMITH: More of the same. It's windy tomorrow, so, yeah, just stay aggressive. I think the course will probably firm up a little bit. Just something to be wary of, but just stay aggressive and try to make some birdies.

Q. It's going to be cold. How do you do with the cold?

CAMERON SMITH: I typically don't love the cold, but a little bit of probably extra warming up, I guess, in the morning and get the body prepped and get ready for a good one tomorrow.

Q. Externally you don't show much emotion no matter what score you make. What are you feeling internally?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, like I said, I guess, it got quite frustrating there at some points during today, but it's easy to say that you can get unlucky around here, but it's just the way the golf course is. It demands quality golf shots, and if you don't hit them, you're going to make some numbers.

Q. Is patience going to be the most important thing this weekend?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, I think so. I think if the greens get firm and fast, patience definitely. Lots of lag putting. I'm sure there will be lots of tricky shots around the green as well. So just got to kind of grind it out.

Q. When you were in two ball the first two days, do you consciously slow down?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, just tried to slow down the tempo the last couple of days, just walk a little bit slower. I typically read greens while other people are putting. I was just reading them when it was all done.

Yeah, just really tried to be conscious of -- I don't want to wait around, especially around here. There's too many thoughts that go through your head. So, yeah, I just want to get up and hit the ball.

Q. Have you been exhausted the past two days playing in front of Tiger?

CAMERON SMITH: Yeah, it was a pretty long couple of days, especially given the conditions. Yeah, a good rest is needed for sure.
