MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 7, 2022

Dustin Johnson

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Was that what it was today?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, I swung it really well. I mean, I felt like I played really nice all day, just the only time I got out of position was on 3, but ended up having a window over there where I could hit it on the green.

Then didn't hit a good tee ball on 1 but managed to make par, and then the only other drivers I hit were 11, which I actually hit a really good one on 11. Then 15, but I hit a terrible driver on 15 too.

Just I hit a lot of 3-woods today because I wasn't real comfortable with the driver for some reason, which is unusual for me. Usually it's the other way around. But I managed the game around very well and hit a lot of -- I knew I was swinging good. So I just needed to keep it in play.

Q. Scores were pretty high today. What is it about the course that was playing tough today?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: It was the wind. That's what made it tricky. It was real gusty. Sometimes, especially around here, it's really hard to get a beat on if you get a lot of crosswinds. Is it helping a little bit, or is it hurting a little bit? Which makes a big difference around here because you really need to be spot on with your distances and iron shots.

Q. I know you played at a vastly different time of year, but when you compare when you won here versus today, are the conditions similar at all?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: No, not really. It was a little bit -- obviously, it was softer when we started the round, but as the day went on, the course dried out, and it definitely started to firm up. Obviously it's going to continue to keep getting firmer, especially with the forecast for tomorrow with sunny and a lot of wind.

So it's going to keep getting firmer. Obviously the few new greens that they redid were really firm. Even with all the rain, they were still hard.

Q. When you got to 4-under, were you thinking -- you had two par-5s in front of you. Were you thinking anything?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: No, I was thinking about the next shot I had to hit on 11. Obviously this golf course, even the holes -- obviously you have chances on most of the holes. 13, you've got to hit it in the fairway, and it's not that easy of a second shot either. Same with 15. So you've still got to put the ball in position and just give yourself some chances.

Q. When you step onto the 1st tee here on Thursday, what's your strategy and how it may be different from other majors?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: No different strategy. First and foremost, just hit the fairway. And you got to hit it on the correct sides of the fairways, depending on where the flags are.
