MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 7, 2022

Scottie Scheffler

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Butler Cabin

Q. You had a smooth 69 for number one player in the world. Scottie, if we go back to when you won that match play, you said you didn't want to accept being number one in the world until you saw the official world rankings come out on that Monday. What did that accomplishment do to your preparation and confidence coming here?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think the ranking is really cool. I think it's a really special honor and something that can't ever be taken away from me making number one in the world, but at the end of the day it doesn't give me any strokes on the field this week. Preparation still looked pretty similar. I did get a little bit more rest than I usually would after Austin or after a typical week because Austin was such a long week. I got a few days have rest and good prep, and I'm enjoying myself so far this week.

Q. How would you describe the scoring conditions out there today considering the rain and even the wind that popped in?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I was shocked at how firm the fairways still were. I expected it to be crazy wet just because we got so much rain. The fairways were a lot firmer than I expected them to be, and the wind was kind of up a little bit today, so it definitely made for some challenging little shots in there, and you had to play with a lot of feel and chip the ball around. It was a fun test today.

Q. There's never been someone tee it up that likes to make a bogey at the last, but all things considered, how was your score indicative of how well you thought you played?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think I scored really well today. I did a good job of keeping the card clean up until the last. Really felt like I played solid. Only one bogey out here in that wind is a pretty solid round.

Q. You go off a little later in the afternoon tomorrow. Expectations of what the scoring conditions may be on Friday?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think tomorrow is going be a really tough day. Especially late in the afternoon. If the forecast holds, it should be pretty gusty winds. It won't be anything like The Players Championship, but it will still be some pretty high winds, and it should be fun. It will be a good test.
