MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 7, 2022

Tony Finau

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How do you feel about the round?

TONY FINAU: I'm just happy with the way I finished. I birdied 15 and 17. 18 was really hard today. Tee shot straight off the left. I hit a really nice drive, so I was able to set up a good par. I think that's a really good score today.

I was happy with my finish. A couple of squirrely shots early in the middle of the round led to some bogeys, but I was happy just with the way I finished and to finish in red numbers today.

Q. How much did the conditions change throughout the day?

TONY FINAU: I don't think the conditions changed very much. It stayed -- the firmness stayed pretty much the same throughout the golf course. Yeah, I don't think much changed, but I know without any rain in the forecast the next few days, things are going to start to firm out. The wind is going to blow a lot of that and make it a lot more dry tomorrow and a lot more firm.

It's going to be quite the test tomorrow. Again, just happy to post a red number today.

Q. Looked like you were driving it well today. You were pleased with how you were hitting it off the tee?

TONY FINAU: Yeah, I hit it really nicely. I put it in the fairway a lot, which is important out here if you're going to hit it close to any pins. I didn't hit irons as well as I would have liked to give myself some better looks.

If I keep driving it the way I do, or the way I did today, I think it's going to be a good confidence boost for the next three days.

Q. How were the greens? It looked like your distance as far as your pace was really good today?

TONY FINAU: Yeah, I lag putted really well. I don't think I had any three putts, which is big around this place. The greens aren't as fast as they were early in the week, but as expected. When it rains as much as it has last night and the day before, then the greens are going to slow down a little bit.

But I was happy with my pace. Hopefully the combination of the pace of the putts and hitting the driver well, that's a good combo around this place.

Q. How about the energy, especially when compared with the last two years here, I mean today?

TONY FINAU: It was amazing, but we've been feeling it all week. When Tiger shows up here on a Monday in the fashion that he did, I only played a few groups in front of him, so the energy's been high since Monday. It's nice to have all the patrons back here this week.
