MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 7, 2022

Ryan Palmer

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. You had some chances early with the putts.

RYAN PALMER: I had a lot of chances. It's the same thing I struggle with year in and year out, just I have a hard time taking my putter from the putting green to the golf course. It's always been my struggle for the last several years.

Short putting's been good. I just struggle making putts when I have ample opportunities. You can't do that here.

Q. You made some really nice -- I thought you made some really nice saves like on 13 and 11. You had to be happy there.

RYAN PALMER: No, I played good, all day I thought. I'd probably like the second shot back on 13 and impatient second shot on 14, just let the wind get through there, and that cost me there. Nothing tee-to-green to worry about, that's for sure.

It's the same thing each and every week for me, just struggle at the end of the day to try to make a putt.

Q. No one's going too low yet. It's like at 2-under.

RYAN PALMER: The wind is blowing. The golf course is soft, but it's playing long honestly. Nobody's going to run away with it today for sure. It's going to be -- it's supposed to pick up.

I thought, if I kept it around par, somewhere around there. Just unfortunate tee shot on 18. It's a tough day. I just need a bigger hole tomorrow.

Q. What's the most difficult part of the wind out there?

RYAN PALMER: Here it's just judging which direction when it swirls like that and just hitting it at the right time. 16, it picked up when Vijay hit, and it stopped when I hit. So I had to wait a second. Then on 14, the wedge I had, just I didn't wait for it long enough, and I air mailed the green.

It's just picking the right time to hit with the swirling winds. That's the most difficult thing about this place. You've got to be so precise on these greens to give yourself easy par chances. So I did that most of the day.

Q. For tomorrow, what do you got? What's the strategy?

RYAN PALMER: From what I'm hearing, it's going to be even harder. It's going to be a little cooler and blowing even harder. I don't know, to be honest with you. It will be a get here and find out, and we'll play each hole as it gives me.

I have no idea what to expect tomorrow with what we're expecting.

Q. Last one, disappointed? Frustrated? Where were you at?

RYAN PALMER: It's more just irritating, frustrating. Not disappointed because I feel like I played solid. It's just irritating and just frustrating that I'm dealing with the same thing every week. It's just I give myself so many chances, and I just can't take advantage of them. That's the frustrating part.

Q. What do you think you need to do to take it from putting green to golf course? Is it technical?

RYAN PALMER: Yeah, antsy, I guess you could call it. I don't know. I could go on the putting green now and probably make everything I look at because there's nothing behind it.

I've been doing it long enough, I know what it is. It's a matter of just getting out of the way. That's all it is is getting in my own way. If I can figure that out, I'll make a few more.
