MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 4, 2022

Mike Weir

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Does this ever get old?

MIKE WEIR: Never. Of course not, not on a day like today. It was beautiful out there. We had a great day.

Q. You played with Mac and then Corey on the back nine, second year in a row playing with those guys. What was it like? Any fun moments out there?

MIKE WEIR: I mean, I enjoy watching their games and talking to them about Tour life and little things around the course here. But yeah, just enjoyed it. We don't get to play together much, us Canadian guys, so it's good when our worlds collide and we can get together here and play a practice round and have a good time.

Q. Your game, I watched a bit of it out there. Looked like you were driving it really well. How are you feeling?

MIKE WEIR: Yeah, everything feels good. Yeah, so we'll see with the conditions. I guess that's why I kind of pause because it would be great if it's playing fast like this. I think we're going to get some big rain so it'll play a little bit longer, but my game feels in good shape, and the short game feels a lot sharper than what it's been the last few weeks, so that's always a good recipe for me. I need to have my short game in order to play well around here.

Q. We spoke to you after you won on the Champions Tour and you mentioned you didn't stop and smell the roses a lot in your prime but you're starting to do that more now. How is that going? This looks like a good place to do that.

MIKE WEIR: Totally. I had a great time out there today. I really enjoyed my golf. I played yesterday, it was a beautiful day. When you get a couple days like that around here, you've got to take it in and enjoy it. It's just every shot out here is so fun. It's just a fun, challenging shot to hit every shot you have at Augusta. I kind of embrace that challenge, and it's harder as you get a little older, but I embrace it, and having a good time with it.

Q. How about the changes at 11? How do you think they'll affect the guys?

MIKE WEIR: You know, the hole is a little longer and it's a little more difficult to the right of the green if you miss it. Even the longer guys going in there with a mid iron, it makes the shot a lot more difficult than with an 8- or 9-iron. For me if I have to play it as kind of almost like a three-shot hole because I don't want to be going in there with lumber at all and trying to hit that green, so I'd rather just play it short and try to get my wedge, and if you make a 5 it's not going to hurt you. There will be lots of 5s and bigger numbers on that hole. 4, 5, you walk out of there, you're feeling pretty good.

Q. The guys you played with today, Corey and Mac, they've been around here for a while, got some experience. Do you think it's time they could --

MIKE WEIR: They could, yeah, easily. Both playing well, both hit the ball plenty long enough and high enough and hit the shots that you need around here. I suspect they're going to do well, and hopefully one of them will get one, too. I'd love to be there if the green jacket ceremony is another Canadian on Sunday. It would be really special.
