MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 4, 2022

Matthew Wolff

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Give me an idea about your round today and how the course conditions were.

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, it was great out there. I know we're expecting a lot of rain tomorrow, so I think the greens are pretty firm. I don't know if they did that on purpose to expect the rain or if they're just trying to make them really firm.

But I thought the place was in great shape. Some of the pins were practice round pins, so they were on some pretty big slopes, but that's Augusta. I think the course is in great shape, and the atmosphere is a little different. The last two times I've been here, the first year in November, there was no fans, and then app April there were limited. This is the first time I've kind of gotten to experience the real Augusta National during Masters, and it's something special for sure.

Q. Talk about the difference with no fans to limited fans to now, what everybody expects.

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, I think this is what people expect. Just looking down from the clubhouse on and just seeing thousands and thousands of people -- what's so awesome about it is they're just so respectful and they're great patrons. It's really cool to be here and I'm excited for a good week, and hopefully we get some good weather.

Q. I talked to a couple guys who talked about with the weather impending tomorrow, they're looking to try to get out here early to try to get as much done as possible. How does that affect your preparation?

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, I played 18 today. It's a perfect day outside, so might as well play 18 to make sure we see them all in case we can't get any play in for the next two days, but I don't know, I like to sleep a lot, so I don't really know if I'm going to be up here. Depends what time I wake up.

Q. Looking at the changes to 15 and 11, how did you approach those today?

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, I don't know if you can approach it any differently. I know there's a few changes on the golf course that might make it -- some people might say it makes it easier, some might say it makes it harder, but I feel like for me if I execute the shots the way I want to the right slope on 11 won't come into play and a couple of those things.

I think it's going to be honestly more of an advantage for the new guys that are here because the changes that they've made, no one has ever seen them. Guys like Tiger, guys who have played here years and years in the past, they come to the same golf course every time, so they know it better than us. But if there's changes being made, everyone is seeing them for the first time. Like I say, hopefully I don't have too much of a problem with them, but the course is still great.

Q. There seems to be a lot more buzz around here because of Tiger than we usually see on a Monday. Talk about how great it is for him to be back out here for the game?

MATTHEW WOLFF: Yeah, it's unbelievable. Tiger is probably the greatest of all time, so just to see him out here is really cool. You think it was like yesterday when he had that brutal car accident, and he's already came back one time and won it, so I wouldn't put anything past him. It's just really awesome for the game of golf, for guys like me growing up and seeing him, to see him out here warming up is just -- it's cool. That's all I've got to say.

Q. Kind of taking a step back to your junior game real quick, there are nine former Sage Valley Junior Invitational participants in the field this year. Have you talked to any of those guys, and what's it like to live that progression along with those other guys and be out here?

MATTHEW WOLFF: To be honest, I didn't really even know that. That's a cool stat. I'm guessing probably Scottie, me, Viktor, Joaquin, Collin, maybe a few others. It is cool. I don't really know if I've brought that up, but that is really cool to see. Sage Valley is one of my favorite golf courses. It's right down the road from here. It's a great spot, that junior invitational they put on -- most junior golfers say it's the Masters of junior golf.

To be there seems like not too long ago and then now to be at the big stage at Augusta National, it's definitely something special. When I see them I'll definitely bring that up. That's something really cool, definitely something to be proud of for sure.
