MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 4, 2022

Cameron Davis

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Can you tell us your experience today. How did you find the course?

CAMERON DAVIS: Well, I've been out yesterday and today, and it's so nice to see the course set up like this. I had a hit a couple of weeks ago, and it was a little slow, but seeing it at tournament speed has really brought the course alive. It's a lot of fun.

Q. Can you believe this is you and this is your life?

CAMERON DAVIS: At this point I've been here a few days now, I'm starting to get used to it. But, yeah, when I first got here, it was a dream come true. I was trying to let the fan boy in me just embrace it for a couple of days and then kind of settle it down. It's been awesome.

Q. What are some of your actions as a fan boy? What do you do?

CAMERON DAVIS: It's fun just sitting there and looking at everything, like taking it all in. Even the areas on the outside of the buildings here, just the practice facility, just sitting there seeing everything you've seen on TV kind of in person, I think that's the biggest part. Walking down 10, seeing Amen Corner for the first time. It's just knowing exactly where everything is and seeing it there in person with your own eyes, it's a really cool feeling.

Q. From Australia as a young bloke, you've dreamt of this?

CAMERON DAVIS: I've been watching this since I was 3 or 4. It's always been on the TV every year, every April. So I'm stoked to be here. It's going to be a lot of fun this week.

Q. You played a few holes with Tiger. How was that? How did you find that?

CAMERON DAVIS: Yeah, yesterday. He ended up behind me and just joined up with me because it was a little slow in front of us. Yeah, trying to pick his brain a little bit, but at the same time, just enjoying being in his presence. I've met him a couple times. It was the first time I've played any golf with him.

That was an enjoyable first go round here tournament week. No fans or anything, just quiet. I hit with Tiger. It was nice.

Q. That's just unbelievable, isn't it?

CAMERON DAVIS: It was very cool, yeah.

Q. Just to hit with Tiger?

CAMERON DAVIS: It was cool to see. He's hitting the shots that you know you should hit, but it's just executing them. He wasn't doing anything special, but he was playing well. Everything was looking pretty solid. It will be great to see him out here if he decides to tee it up on Thursday.

Q. He didn't tell you yes, he's playing?

CAMERON DAVIS: He said it's still a game-time decision. We'll see how that goes.

Q. Did he look pretty fit and strong to you?

CAMERON DAVIS: Yeah, still a little slow going up a couple of hills on 17 and 18. I mean, I was as well. He's been through a lot more than I have. So, yeah, he's striking it well. He's hitting it far enough to play the holes the way you need to play them. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be able to put rounds together out here.

Q. You said you saw a lot of his stroke making that you recognized from the Tiger you've been watching on TV?

CAMERON DAVIS: I've never seen it in person, that's the thing. It's just -- yeah, he hits the proper shot and struck it really well and good distance control, all the things you need. Just looked like the work he's been putting in has set him up pretty well for this week if he feels ready.

Q. Did you give him some advice that he needs to pitch up on Thursday morning?

CAMERON DAVIS: I don't think he needs any advice from me. I was happy to sit there and get some advice from him.

Q. Was it impossible not to play the fan boy when he joined up with you?

CAMERON DAVIS: I mean, I've watched him for so long, but it was just enjoyable to be out there playing golf alongside him. I was watching what he was doing, but I also had my work to do as well. I still wanted to prepare really well myself.

Yeah, just turned into a really nice, enjoyable first Sunday around Augusta. I'll definitely remember it as my first go round here with him. Yeah, it's just a good start to the week and nice quiet round with someone like that is always enjoyable.

Q. Can you talk us through how -- like you said, he came up behind and said do you mind if I hit with you?

CAMERON DAVIS: I had some members playing in front of us. He was playing as a one ball. I was waiting anyway. And it just got to the point where I'm waiting on every tee anyway, so we might as well join up and have a hit.

That happens a lot on TOUR. That's kind of the way it goes when it's getting a little slow. No point in hitting around as a one ball and making the one ball behind you wait all the time.

So it was easy. He was nice, very approachable, very talkative. It was perfectly fine.

Q. Was there one tip that he gave you that really stuck with you?

CAMERON DAVIS: It's one I've heard a lot. It's just putts break a lot more than they look like. Especially the first time you go around here, the greens are a little slower for regular member play. For tournament play, it breaks twice as much, maybe more sometimes, and the ball just loves to keep on rolling around in those hills. So just play the high line, and the high line is higher than you think, I think was the main one.

The rest is just having been around here a couple of times, you know where you need to hit it. It's just executing it, and make sure if you do miss it, that it's not on the short-side.

It's a really fun, strategic golf course. The golf course tells you where you need to go, but it's just a matter of hitting it there. When you've got a lot of people around and the wind might be blustering a little bit more throughout the week, it's going to be a little trickier to do that, but no reason why we can't.

Q. Roseville or Monash?

CAMERON DAVIS: I played both. I started at Roseville, and I'm a member of both. Both have been great to me back home.

Q. How are the greens compared to Monash?

CAMERON DAVIS: I would say the green speed's pretty similar to Monash. Monash might not usually be quite as firm as this. When I joined up for sure, it was probably pretty good practice if I went straight from there to here. We've had some quick greens around there.

Q. Still marking with a 20-cent?

CAMERON DAVIS: Keep a little bit of Australia around with me.
