AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 2, 2022

Amari Avery

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Do you recall the first time you heard about this tournament?

AMARI AVERY: Yeah, I think it's when it happened the first year. I heard about it just from social media, and I was excited for it, but I was so young, and I wasn't ranked high enough to play, but it was nice to watch Jennifer and Maria do their thing.

Q. When did it become a goal, and how big of a goal was it?

AMARI AVERY: I think that very year when they played, and I saw how electric it was. I think I definitely want to be a part of something like that, and I made it my goal. I made it a goal for myself that very second, and I'm glad to have played two years in a row now.

Q. Can you assess the impact of this tournament on women's golf?

AMARI AVERY: I think it's huge. It's hard to find words for how much this impacts women's golf. Especially amateur women's golf. Seeing all these people out here lined up watching us and clapping for us, I think it's how it should be, and it's a step in the right direction for sure.

Q. Amari, you're such a big competitor and obviously want to win, but do you feel like you walked away today with some victories even though it's not the victory?

AMARI AVERY: Oh, yeah. I'm so excited for what's to come and where my game is at. I'm very excited for it, although I will not win today.
