AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 2, 2022

Jensen Castle

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. I know you have a bunch of family and teammates out here. What is it like having them on the road with you?

JENSEN CASTLE: So special. Especially my teammates. It was a last-minute decision. We were able to get some extra tickets. We texted them thinking, hey, if you guys wanted. They were, like, oh, yeah. The next thing you know they're leaving at 3:00. All of them take the minivan down, and they just stayed last night. Just seeing them all out in the Blue it's super special.

Q. Are you going to give Dad a hard time for not getting the Kentucky Blue out?

JENSEN CASTLE: I don't know what my dad was thinking showing up in all black having a daughter going to Kentucky.

Q. I know they have followed you for years, but to have your parents on the road with you, what's it like to have them?

JENSEN CASTLE: That was also super special to have my family. Me being from West Columbia, South Carolina, it's only an hour and a half max, depending who is driving. It was super special to have all the people I've of grown up with. I was at Country Club of Lexington. I'm at Columbia now. Indian River I also work at. Just to see you'll the people from those golf courses recognize me. Even going to two different high schools. People recognize me from those high schools, and that was super special.

Q. Did you have time at all during the course of your round to walk around and just look at all the history out there?

JENSEN CASTLE: Yes. I mean, the golf course is such a prestigious golf course. Everyone knows it's such a great golf course. Like I said, it's just special being out here.

I think my favorite thing out here was just all the people. For them to take the time out of their day, to come out here. Obviously it's Augusta National, who wouldn't want to come out here? But especially for the game of women's golf, it's super cool to see.

Q. The crazy shot you had earlier today. I didn't know about it. You hit a shot over the green, and it rolled back.

Q. Was that on 5?

JENSEN CASTLE: 7? Yeah, that was me.

Q. Just describe and take us through that.

JENSEN CASTLE: My caddie, you know I have a little bit of trust issues, so from the get-go he stressed to me, you've got to trust me out here today. There are going to be crazy breaks or whatever.

Unfortunately, I hit it right off the tee, tight fairway, I get it. Then I really wanted to hit it under the tree and take it over the next one. I had the shot in my bag. He said, Jensen, just chip it out and get up and down far. You know what, you're right. Whatever. Sure enough, I punched it out 80 yards, and then I go to the chip shot, and the pin is super far right. He stands 20, 30 yards left. Take it here. I'm, like, okay. He is, like, tripping or something.

Sure enough, you know, I told myself, he knows what he is doing. He has been out here five years, and I took it on that line, and I guess it almost went in. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it, but...

Q. This experience going forward, how will it help you in your career?

JENSEN CASTLE: It just gives me a lot of confidence knowing I'm capable of being out here. This is a great golf course, and I told the media yesterday that 72 was pretty good, and I didn't hit the ball the greatest today, but my short game was really solid, so I am capable of playing on this level.

Q. There are girls out here that you grew up playing with in South Carolina. What was that like and to be able to catch up with them all yesterday?

JENSEN CASTLE: Are you talking about patrons or --

Q. I think it was Anna Morgan and some of the girls that you --

JENSEN CASTLE: Some of the girls playing out here. That's super cool to see that we made it this far. Anna Morgan is one of my great friends. She's awesome, and she plays golf at Furman. We have a picture of us when we were 8 and 9. U.S. Kids Golf standing together. Just to see how far we've come, and we're still able to be friends, and I think that's super cool.

Thanks.
