AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 1, 2022

Antonia Malate

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How was your experience out there today?

ANTONIA MALATE: It was so amazing. It was breathtaking. We were here on Tuesday also for dinner and it was just crazy.

Q. Did you have any favorite holes?

ANTONIA MALATE: 12, 16 -- they're all amazing, but the par-3s, just like watching them TV and seeing them in real life was just crazy.

Q. So a lot of little girls will be watching you. What do you hope that they learn from your experience?

ANTONIA MALATE: Just staying in it, not giving up when you have a bad hole, and just taking it all in when you can, because you never get this experience.

Q. You're an alumna of the LPGA-USGA Girls' Golf program. How do you feel that helped you prepare you on your journey to be here?

ANTONIA MALATE: Yeah, definitely. I did First Tee in that program, and I think that just being around other girls helped a lot and just helped be around other females that also played golf and just helped me build my game and get stronger.

Q. Last question: Now that you've seen the course, do you have any advice for the guys playing next week?

ANTONIA MALATE: I would say always keep it below the hole, and on 16, play that slope so you can make it in the hole. (Laughter.)

Q. You're decked out in San Jose State gear. What does it mean to represent them this week?

ANTONIA MALATE: Definitely we're playing super well this year, we're ranked fifty on golf stat, and just being able to represent such a strong team this year is really important for my teammates and my coaches.

Q. Have you kept in contact with Coach Dana and Coach Kortnie this week?

ANTONIA MALATE: Yeah, they've been calling me and texting me. They're just so proud. One of my teammates is also at The Chevron this week, she was supposed to be here, but she's rooting for me and I'm rooting for her.

Q. What are some thoughts heading into tomorrow?

ANTONIA MALATE: Just enjoy the whole experience. Regardless of how I play, I just want to be out there and have a lot of fun.

I'm glad to make the cut in my first year playing this event, so, yeah.
