AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 1, 2022

Latanna Stone

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Great position after 36 holes. What's the confidence level like going into the next two days you're going to be at Augusta National?

LATANNA STONE: I'm really excited. I had only three holes left, and I was kind of nervous, but I was just really excited to have only three holes and not like a whole nine.

I'm really pumped to play Augusta. I've never played it before, so it's going to be a real treat.

Q. You played really well yesterday coming into today. Only one bogey, one birdie, pretty clean scorecard. Not a lot of people have been able to play that well. What's been working well for you this week?

LATANNA STONE: I've just been trying to keep it simple -- fairways, greens, two-putt and kind of get off. I'm not trying to do anything special. I know there's not a lot of birdies out there, and I'm just trying to stay patient.

Q. Ingrid's played well here before. Did you pick up anything from her or ask for any advice, or did she give you any advice coming into this week at all?

LATANNA STONE: I think in the last interview she said to have fun. She hasn't given me any advice on Augusta yet, but we'll talk after.

Q. People spend their whole lives trying to master that golf course and learn every square inch of it. How do you approach trying to learn a golf course in four or five hours like Augusta?

LATANNA STONE: I have no idea yet. I think I'm just going to kind of take it in and just try and keep it simple, like I did out here. I've never seen this course before, and I only had one day to learn that.

Q. How tough was it this morning compared to yesterday afternoon playing out here?

LATANNA STONE: It was kind of tough to wake up a little bit. It was a bit cold, but I try not to think like that. I was just like, okay, let's just par the three holes.

But then I like plugged it in the bunker on 7. I made it up and down luckily, but I was like, okay, that could have been really bad. Let's brush that off and go on to the next hole.

Q. Did that help to get that shaky start out of the way early?

LATANNA STONE: It did, for sure.

Q. What are you most looking forward to the next two days at Augusta?

LATANNA STONE: Just kind of enjoying the golf course and being grateful that I'm there and cherish that.

Q. What will be your caddie situation?

LATANNA STONE: I'm going to keep the same caddie, Rowdy. That's my guy.

Q. What's the story?

LATANNA STONE: He's really good at yardages. I didn't have to do a thing. It was nice. I just go up there, take a sip of water, and he's already got the yardage. Helped me read putts and kind of like helped me with my mental game, just kept saying stay committed. Stay committed to your shots. And when I kind of was losing it starting off yesterday on the back nine.

Q. He's local?

LATANNA STONE: Yes. He's actually an Augusta caddie.

Q. Do you think that will help you tomorrow, kind of take less of the guesswork out on your part and more rely on him?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, I'm just going to listen to him and kind of have him tell me what to do and I'll do it.

Q. Do you have any favorite memories from watching the Masters or anything or watching golf at Augusta National at all?

LATANNA STONE: Bubba Watson's shot was pretty cool. I got to go in the PING Vault and see his wedge in there. It was pretty cool.

Q. Are you going to try to recreate that shot in the practice round today maybe?

LATANNA STONE: I don't know about that. I'm just going to try to hit the fairway.

Q. How would you describe, I guess, your style of play?

LATANNA STONE: I'm definitely a simple player, just I try to keep it simple out there -- fairways, greens, and two-putt, like I said. Nothing special.
