AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

March 31, 2022

Beatrice Wallin

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about your day. Just kind of first start out with what you did to pass the time and then how you were able to kind of get in the tournament mindset and come out here and tied for the lead.

BEATRICE WALLIN: Well, my alarm this morning went off at 5:10. I got the message at 5:30 that it was a delay, got to sleep in a little bit, which was very nice.

Then I got here with the first shuttle, played some cards with my friend and my brother and just like enjoyed some time and just kind of chilled.

Then the round today, the first few holes I saved some pars before I kind of got going with my approach shot, got it a little closer, made one or two birdies and kind of got going and got the momentum.

Yeah, it kind of carried out the day with hitting approach shot kind of close, giving me a birdie shot, and made pars too.

Q. What card game did you guys play?

BEATRICE WALLIN: We played some Swedish card games. I don't know if it's known over here.

Q. Well, what is it?

BEATRICE WALLIN: I don't know how to explain it, but like you have cards on the table. You have three in the hand. You just have to like -- it's so weird.

Q. It's complicated.

BEATRICE WALLIN: Yeah, it's complicated.

Q. You're the only player in the field with two top 10s previously in this event. Do you feel like you're the player to beat now, now that you've worked your way into a share of the lead, just because of your experience here?

BEATRICE WALLIN: I feel like it helps having experience, but the field is so great. Everyone can play super good, and it's still a lot of golf left. I'm just taking it shot by shot and day by day.

Q. What are the challenges with kind of waiting around all day and then having to get a quick warmup in when the rain stops before you start your round?

BEATRICE WALLIN: I mean, just what you do with the time, it's a lot of hours just like sitting and not doing much. I feel like playing cards with your friends or just spending time with them kind of made the time go quicker.

At the end of the day, it was kind of easy just sitting and waiting. I didn't really want to play in that kind of rain because it was pouring. SO I was happy to wait and just hang around.

Q. Did the course play any longer because of the rain?

BEATRICE WALLIN: They moved us up on a few holes, which was very, very helpful. So I didn't really feel like it was that much longer. Of course it was a little because we didn't get any rollout. Overall, I felt like it was similar.

Q. Which was harder, yesterday or today?

BEATRICE WALLIN: I would say yesterday because it was a lot more wind, and I don't know if it was my game because I struggled a little bit yesterday. But in the end, I got through and shot 1-over.

Q. Was it a relief to get your second round in before the whistle blew?

BEATRICE WALLIN: I still have one hole and one putt, or maybe two putts left. So I'm still -- I'm going to be here early tomorrow morning and finish it off.

Q. What's it like having your brother on the bag? Did he caddie for you the first two years?

BEATRICE WALLIN: He did. This is his third time caddying at this event. It's so much fun. He's been doing a great job this week, and we've just been enjoying it out there.
