AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

March 30, 2022

Benedetta Moresco

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. You're 2-under and currently leading the 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur? How does it feel?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: It was good out there today. I had really good putts from all around the green. My key was keeping -- like being patient on the golf course. I think that was the key.

Q. Anything you learned yesterday that you thought, okay, I might be able to come out here and score today? Any of those thoughts?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Just be aware of landing spots on the green, just got to count some meters less, yeah, just that.

Q. How did you birdie 2, 3, and 8?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Let me remember. 2, I had a putt from like five feet kind of thing, and then I had a putt from like 15 feet the hole after.

Q. On the par-5?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: On the par-5. What's the other one?

Q. 8, par-3.

BENEDETTA MORESCO: 8, par-3, so it was an 8-iron and come off the ridge like this far. It was pretty good.

Q. So no super pressure packed putts?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: No.

Q. Any good ones for par on the back?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Yeah, the back was definitely tougher to putt. Just to have like short putts, the short putts I had was for par. I made a lot of five-footers, which was good.

Q. Are you a good wind player, would you say, or you surprised yourself?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Yes, I enjoy playing in the wind. I played in Europe and like all the European tournaments up in England. I had a great like training there. So, yeah, I enjoy playing in the wind.

Q. You're one of the few rounds under par. How much confidence does that give you going into the rest of the weekend, especially under the conditions you played in here on the closing stretch too?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: That's exciting. That's exciting. It was a good game, so I have a lot of good feelings to take to tomorrow, which is good. Yeah, I'm really excited.

Q. When you play as well as you did today, anything you want to work on for tomorrow that you want to improve on?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Going to keep playing with keeping a good pace with my putter and just play my game tomorrow. That's it.

Q. Do you know any of the Italian pros well, like Molinari or Manassero or those guys?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: I've seen them, and I talked to them sometimes, but I don't really know them.

Q. I talked to your college coach Nick, and he said you've been struggling with a little bit of consistency this spring because you've been doing some swing adjustments. What's been the work you've been doing?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: It's been hard to work on without my coach Alex, because he's from Italy. Now he's here, and we got a good practice a few days ago, which was really good. Then I struggled a little bit with my back at the beginning of the semester, and I had to take some time off.

It's great to work with Alex now. I'm super happy.

Q. What's his last name?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Senoner.

Q. And then what specifically have you been working on with your swing, and what clicked two days ago?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Probably just like my down swing, most of it, and just we chipped --

Q. Steep or shallow?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: It was a little too steep, yes. And then we worked on the chipping green. We did a lot of like pace work on the green, which was -- yeah, it was great.

Q. And that helped with your swing?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Yeah.

Q. Your bio says you're a big skier. Have you skied?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: So I went home at winter break and skied with my dad and my sister. It was pretty fun.

Q. Is that how you hurt your back?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: No (laughter).

Q. Just wear and tear on the back?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: I don't know, just probably playing a lot. Like I can't think about something that happened that's -- yeah.

Q. Did your sister play this event in 2019?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: No, she didn't. I played last year.

Q. So you're the only one who's played?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Yes.

Q. I just wanted to ask you the secret to your success today.

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Just keep a good pace with my putter and just being patient out there because the wind blows fast. So, yeah, just being patient and keep a good pace with my putter.

Q. Did you see any change in the conditions from the start of your round today to the conclusion?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: Yes, definitely the wind came up on the back nine more than the front nine, and it was a little bit tougher. I think the back nine are tougher than the front nine. So just being patient out there if you have one or two bogeys is fine.

Q. And how will that set up your play for tomorrow with the weather potentially changing to the wetter side of things?

BENEDETTA MORESCO: You've got to be adjustable. Just got to play my game, and ever what the condition will be, I will just adjust to them.
