AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

March 30, 2022

Hailey Borja

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Successful first round at Augusta National Women's Amateur 2022. What went great for you?

HAILEY BORJA: My putting went really well. That's basically what saved me all day. My caddie was really helpful with my yardages today, so a lot of good shots. But mostly my putting I think was the best today.

Q. How were the conditions this afternoon? I know it was kind of nice and calm this morning, but the wind started to pick up when the sun came out around midday?

HAILEY BORJA: Yeah, I would say my last five holes or so was what got really windy. After that, I was like, okay, middle greens all day. I gave myself a putt chance, birdie chance. So just middle greens.

Q. Anything you learned from today's round that you didn't pick up in the practice round yesterday that you're going to be able to use tomorrow?

HAILEY BORJA: I would say definitely when the wind picked up, my ball definitely started rolling a little bit farther than usual, and I think that will help for tomorrow and days to come.

Q. If you play as well as you did today, what do you want to work on for tomorrow?

HAILEY BORJA: Definitely a couple more shots. I think I could have made a couple more greens. Also, a little bit of work around the greens, some chipping and bunker shots. Like I said, greens are pretty firm, so balls roll in pretty quickly.

Q. What was the best part of the Chairman's Dinner last night?

HAILEY BORJA: I think just that first view walking out of the clubhouse, it was just unbelievable. It blew me away.

Q. Have you had any sort of feeling like that before?

HAILEY BORJA: Definitely not, no. Dream come true.

Q. How was that green carpet?

HAILEY BORJA: It was beautiful. There was like no speck of hair that was longer than anything else. Like it was -- everything was just perfectly cut.

Q. And the food?

HAILEY BORJA: The food was really good. It's funny because I'm not a very big seafood person. That was my first time trying crab, but that was pretty good still. And the filet, I think, was my favorite. Steak has always been my favorite meal. Steak wrapped in Bacon is really good.

Q. You closed out both nines with birdies. What happened there?

HAILEY BORJA: Here on my 9, but 18, a couple shots on the fairway. Then my third shot I barely just got on the green and it rolled up perfectly to about three, four feet. So I gave myself like a good birdie chance. Then on 18, wind was behind me, and I had about 211 to the middle of the green. I think that was all I really wanted, not too much at the pin.

My ball actually faded perfectly in there. It was kind of a little bit of a mis-shot, but I'll take it anyway.
