AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

March 29, 2022

Valery Plata

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Just walked off the course. Your thoughts? What do you think?

VALERY PLATA: I think it's a very challenging golf course. It should be a fun two days. Greens are pretty firm and running pretty fast. So that should be a challenge for everybody.

Q. Have any expectations coming into this week at all?

VALERY PLATA: I just want to have fun. I just want to have a good time and enjoy, enjoy the experience really.

Q. Is there anything that you're looking forward to that you kind of had circled on the schedule as you were looking at the week of events and what was going to be going on this week?

VALERY PLATA: Yeah, just getting to Augusta any point of the week is what anybody looks forward to the most. I'm looking forward to being here with my family.

Q. On top of that, is it kind of tough not to look ahead to the weekend at Augusta knowing you're still going to play on Friday, but two rounds to make it through to Saturday?

VALERY PLATA: Yeah, sure. One of the most important things is to stay grounded and take it one shot at a time, one step at a time, and see where that leaves us for Saturday.

Q. You played really well in your summer amateur events. Are you going to take anything away from the runs you made anywhere? I know it's totally different. It's not a match play event. But anything like the nerves or anything that you can call back to?

VALERY PLATA: Playing in those events, you play with the best players in the world, and that's kind of where we're at right now. Just knowing I have the ability to play with them and take that into this week too.

Q. You said you're looking forward to the family time this week. Who's all here with you?

VALERY PLATA: I have my parents, my brother, my coach and his family here. It should be a fun atmosphere.

Q. Who's going to be coming with you to Augusta on Friday?

VALERY PLATA: My assistant coach, yeah. She's also going to be my caddie. So I'm excited for that.

Q. Did you follow any of the Georgia Cup this past weekend with James' win?

VALERY PLATA: I did not follow it very closely. I know he won, but that's about as much as I know.

Q. How cool would it feel to spread some more Spartans energy in the air?

VALERY PLATA: That would be really cool. I think it's really special that he's going to be here as well next week. I think it's something pretty unique, and I'm excited for him as well.

Q. What's preparation like for you to come out here?

VALERY PLATA: I'm just kind of doing whatever I've done in the past to be successful at the events I've played. Just focusing a lot on the short game, that's my main thing, and just being ready to take on the week really.

Q. Do you have a favorite meal that you like to eat before you get on the course?

VALERY PLATA: No, it's hard here. The food here is different than at home. So I don't really have a favorite here, no.

Q. So if you had a choice, a meal to eat, what would you like to eat before a round?

VALERY PLATA: I couldn't tell you specific things, just whatever I eat when I'm at home, that would be my choice.
