March 24, 2022

Justin Thomas

Austin, Texas, USA

Austin Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Obviously hugely important getting a win on the board. Talk us through the day.

JUSTIN THOMAS: Yeah, I played really, really well today. I felt like it was windier, it was tougher -- and I've had a very tough time with this tournament in the format, so I just, I don't know, I felt very calm and just very in control today. So it was nice to go get a win and, unfortunately, with losing the first day, I need a little bit of luck, but hopefully Kiz can rally back and I can -- all I can do is try to go win my match tomorrow and hope for the best.

Q. What do you think it is about this golf course? You get to the semis in 2017 or 2018 and then like what do you think was going so well that year?

JUSTIN THOMAS: I don't know. A lot of it is luck, it's who is in your group, who is in your pod and all it takes is one or two bad days or bad rounds or the other person plays a little bit better and it just doesn't matter.

I personally like stroke play more because I have, over the course of 72 holes, I like my chances of being able to end up near the top in some way, shape or form.

But when it's match play you're just going against the other person and it's a totally different ball game.

Q. With all that said, how do you think you have been performing this week, especially leading into Augusta and the difference between yesterday and today?

JUSTIN THOMAS: Yeah, I'm not taking too much into yesterday. I mean, obviously didn't play too well, but I mean Luke also played pretty well. We didn't get as much out of our rounds, either one of us, but I just didn't take advantage of anything.

But I'm playing really well, regardless of what happens tomorrow, this week I'm not looking at it negatively or anything going into Augusta, I'm driving the ball well and feel like I have good control over everything, it's just about going out and trying to win a match.
