Q. You had to watch Shane Lowry chip it in. What were you thinking when you had to make that putt?

HAROLD VARNER III: At first I was just like, Oh, man if he hits it close that will be a good shot. But he holed it. Yeah, just played well and a lot of fun. Hadn't played match play in a long time, so it was just good to get out there, have some fun. I know Shane and his caddie, so I like that it's a little personal, so it's pretty funny, we had a good exchanging of words after he made that putt.

Q. You mentioned it but it is your tournament debut here. What do you think about how the course played today and what it's like to compete out here?

HAROLD VARNER III: It's awesome. You don't have to look at a scoreboard or anything, just play golf. I enjoy it. Obviously get to play for a lot of money and if you beat a lot of people it will be great. Yeah, it's good, just want to get out of the pool. I don't really know how it works, because somehow you can win two and still not make it out. But yeah, we'll just take it one day at a time.

Q. Shane chips in the from rocks, you roll in a birdie and then you get the big bear hug from him.

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, obviously stole his thunder a little bit. We're decent friends, so it was good, it's super awkward out there because you know everyone and you're just like, Is that good or is that not good?

So it's, a lot of fun, I played pretty well and that's what it's going to take to -- at the end of the day no matter what format you're going to have to play well. So just looking forward to tomorrow.

Q. You know Shane and his caddie really well. It's like buddies out there playing.

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, it's weird. I don't really like it, but I love competing, so it's, at the end of the day you want to win, I don't know -- well I do anyway. But it was good. We had a lot of fun. That was pretty funny right there, so I can't wait to give him a hard time.

Q. You haven't done match play in a while. How much fun is it?

HAROLD VARNER III: It's a lot of fun. It goes by quicker, except today it was insanely slow, usually you can just be done in no time.

But, yeah, it was good, it's just, I wish we played it more. I think it's a great format. But you got to play well, it doesn't matter what format it is.

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, sounds good.
