Q. Exceptional play today and you closed out the match at 16. That's a great way to start the tournament.

JON RAHM: Yeah, it's a good one. I played a solid round of golf. Not much to ask. If I wanted to be picky it was just a couple short putts I would like to have made.

But I was able to have a couple of fortunate moments. A chip in on 2, the long putt on 13, a good break off the tee on 12. So everything evened out.

Sebastian didn't have his best day. Luckily, a couple of good par putts on 10, 11 and that got my confidence up.

Q. Is there a part of you that says, hey, I'm still the No. 1 play in the world here, people, I'm ready to challenge for this title?

JON RAHM: Part of me?

Q. As far as being the No. 1 player in the world coming into this event and having success in the past here as well?

JON RAHM: Yeah, I don't know why I wouldn't think that. Of course you still got to prove it though. Obviously I'm not thinking about it all day. But, yeah, I'm here to compete and win and prove myself.
