TPC Scottsdale

Quick Quotes

Q. Carlos, great way to finish your week here at WM Phoenix Open. Can you talk us through the excitement of the hole-in-one on 16 followed by the eagle on 17?

CARLOS ORTIZ: Yeah, that was pretty special. I got lucky, I saw Kevin Kisner hit an 8-iron and I was going to hit an 8-iron and we figured out it was a perfect 9-iron for me. I honestly thought it was a little bit short. That's why I started walking. I was pretty surprised that got in.

I don't even know what to say. It was unbelievable. I didn't know how to react. A lot of people cheering for you and then you start trying to watch out for your head because I got actually nailed pretty hard on the back with a beer can on the back, and then after that I was just trying to just avoid all the cans I could.

I don't know, I don't even know what to say. It was great. I just tried to react to what was happening.

Q. Have you ever had a crowd respond to you on a golf course ever like that, and how do you process all that energy?

CARLOS ORTIZ: I mean, no. I don't think anybody has that crowd respond anywhere. The 16th home is unique in golf, at least on the PGA TOUR. I don't think we play any majors or anything where we get a hole with that kind of response from the people.

Q. But you managed to keep your emotions in check because you eagled the next hole.

CARLOS ORTIZ: I mean, 15 minutes after my last shot, I had enough time to calm down because they had to clear the green from all the beer cans. It was great, and then making that 2 on the next, that's a first for me, making a 1 and then a 2.

Q. How many holes-in-one have you had in your life?

CARLOS ORTIZ: I think the 10th or the 11th. I'm not sure. I need to go back -- I've made some in practice rounds, but I think it's my third on the PGA TOUR in an official round.

Q. Do you think you've ever in your life gone 1-2 on a par-3 and par-4?

CARLOS ORTIZ: No, that's what I'm saying. It's a first for me.

Q. The WM Phoenix Open has been known as one of the most out-of-the-ordinary golf tournaments out there on the PGA TOUR. Would you like to see more tournaments start to adapt to this type of nature and make the game more energetic and fun or do you like it the way it is?

CARLOS ORTIZ: That's a tough question. It's just a hard week with all the people like -- it's unbelievable the vibes they provide, and it's unique, especially 16, 17 and 18. I don't think you would want that -- every single week would be tiring, especially once people get drunk they get a little bit rowdy and they start saying the wrong things.

Q. How will you celebrate?

CARLOS ORTIZ: Tequila, some Maestro Dobel, and try to share it with everybody watching the Super Bowl.

Q. What made you throw the ball into the crowd?

CARLOS ORTIZ: I don't know, they get excited when you throw things at them. They were throwing things at me, so I throw something back to them.

Q. Where were you yesterday when Sam aced his hole? Your number was bigger than his. I think he was 124. Do you feel good about that?

CARLOS ORTIZ: Yeah, a hole-in-one is a hole-in-one. Doesn't matter how far you hit it. Honestly, I don't remember. I think we were on 17. I think they were right behind us. I'm not sure. They were close to us, but it wasn't -- it's just one of those sounds that you know something happened.
