TPC Scottsdale

Quick Quotes

Q. Good start today, 4-under, 67. Nice finish with the eagle and the late birdie there. Just a few comments on the round.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I thought I played well today. I didn't play perfect, but played well and I'm off to a good start and we'll get right back at it tomorrow early.

Q. What's the, do you ever have kind of temper yourself when you come to an event like this, knowing the crowd's going to be what it is and so forth? We hear so much about blood pressure going up and so forth, is that something you have to actively have to work on keeping yourself in pace and in check?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I think I work on it all the time, so I'm not treating this week any different. I know what it's like, even though this is my first time here, I have heard from the guys how crazy it is and I think actually, as far as waves go, I got the least crazy wave.

Q. And then one more from me, speaking of it being your first time, what is your reaction to it? Is it kind of everything that you had heard about?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, for sure. I mean, it feels like the Coliseum in there on 16 and, you know, everyone seems to be having a great time.

Q. You mentioned last week at Pebble that when things aren't going well you have to bring yourself back and when things are going really well you have to bring yourself back. You're always a calm, cool and collected guy out on the course, does that help you at an event like this?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I think it helps me all the time, to be honest. That's just kind of how I am naturally and I embrace it and go for it even more out here when I'm playing.

Q. What do you think this course does, does it play to your strengths well, how does it fit your game?

PATRICK CANTLAY: I think you need to drive the ball really well out here. The fairways are narrow, but if you do drive the ball in the fairway you have a wedge.

And so I think that plays to my strength because I'm able to drive the ball really well usually and once I get comfortable seeing the lines out here I should be all set.
