PIF SAUDI INTERNATIONAL POWERED BY SOFTBANK INVESTMENT ADVISERS

February 4, 2022

Phil Mickelson

King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia

Royal Greens Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. The wind is obviously not going to get any easier, I think, so how glad are you to be finished?

PHIL MICKELSON: Yeah, I'll be in decent shape heading into the weekend. I didn't really put it together, and I feel like I'm not far away from doing that. I'm really looking forward to the weekend. I hope that it plays challenging on the weekend, as well, because like I said, the course really, what's so great about it in my opinion is that when it does blow, the birdie holes just get more birdieable and the hard pars just get a lot harder, and it allows guys who are playing really well to pull away.

Q. What have you done particularly well so far?

PHIL MICKELSON: I've just kept it in play and made it pretty easy on me, but I haven't hit my irons as close as I expect to. I haven't really putted as well as I feel I can, and I haven't taken advantage of a lot of opportunities. Like I say, I feel like I've got something or not too far away.

Q. That's kind of a good feeling, isn't it? The fact that you still feel like there's still a lower round out there?

PHIL MICKELSON: Yeah, yeah. I think it's going to be fairly windy this weekend, which will be fun golf to watch because you'll see guys shoot in the mid-60s and then you'll see guys really struggle. There will be some good movement on the leaderboard.

Q. Is that more challenging for you, what you just said, playing an event like this in these conditions as opposed to going to Hawai'i where 34-under wins?

PHIL MICKELSON: You know, I actually think that it's good to have a mixture of all of it. It's just good to have a mixture of all of it because if you're a complete player you'll be able to adapt to whatever the conditions are.

Q. Do you have a favourite winning score, sort of a range?

PHIL MICKELSON: I really don't. I like shootouts. I like Kapalua, 28-, 32-under, whatever. I don't mind that at all. I also don't mind it when you have to fight to keep it around par. You just kind of have to adapt to whatever. I don't really have a favourite. What I do like is a mixture. I like that.
