PIF SAUDI INTERNATIONAL POWERED BY SOFTBANK INVESTMENT ADVISERS

February 3, 2022

Othman Almulla

King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia

Royal Greens Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Othman, just talk me through your round. How did it go for you?

OTHMAN ALMULLA: Kind of a slow round. I hit a lot of greens, made a lot of up-and-down birdies to save pars and then made kind of a soft bogey on No. 7, and then just kept thinking, boy, I didn't hit it close enough to make many birdies today. I had one on 12 that was a pretty nice one. But that's the name of the game, right? You've just got to create some chances and make them, and I just unfortunately didn't hit it close enough.

Q. What did you do well today that you can take as a positive for round 2?

OTHMAN ALMULLA: Just kind of stayed patient. Kind of maybe need to put the foot down to the pedal tomorrow, but I think I take a lot of positives with some of the saves that I made to keep myself in it around par, and then just need to keep going, keep learning from these experiences. It's home field, right? We want to do so well playing here, and I think I need to find a way to say it's another golf tournament. I hate to say it, but I just love playing for Saudi and I love playing in Saudi and it's such a great tournament. I think just a tiny bit of enthusiasm and excitement, and I think I need to tone it down a tad.

Q. You think mentally change things up a little bit?

OTHMAN ALMULLA: I think a little bit. I think I've been pretty strong mentally the last couple years learning from some of the mistakes that I've made. I'm just trying to get better, I think. Just trying to get 1 per cent better every time I play. I did a lot of things a little bit better than normal, but a couple of sloppy shots that kind of -- but today is a good day to score, right? It's not very windy and it's supposed to be very windy the next couple days, and I think I'm just going to have to try and go low tomorrow.

Q. What are you learning from being in this environment with the best players in the world, even on the range, practice rounds? What little nuggets have you taken this week?

OTHMAN ALMULLA: Just kind of know that I hit the ball good enough. I think kind of giving myself some belief, playing some practice rounds with some of the guys and learning from some of the big names that I've fortunate enough to play with. It's just kind of believing in myself a little bit more, I think, kind of back myself to go out and hit really, really good shots, high-quality shots and play some conservative shots. It'll come. I keep learning, right? It's all about being optimistic and looking forward to tomorrow, right? I can always do better.
