AUSTRALIAN OPEN

January 17, 2022

James Duckworth

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Press Conference

A. MANNARINO/J. Duckworth

6-4, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1

THE MODERATOR: It was a tough game out there; how are you feeling after that one?

JAMES DUCKWORTH: Yeah, pretty disappointed. Yeah, it was a match I felt like I could have won. Didn't serve well enough probably throughout the match really, and that probably cost me.

Q. Do you still look at it glass half full? What's your sort of main reaction as far as frame of mind?

JAMES DUCKWORTH: Look, I recognize that the back half of last year was some great stuff, but my last match was -- well, the last match last year was early November, so it's not something that I'm really thinking about now too much. That's gone. That's great, but yeah, I want to try and be better.

Q. Have you booked your next tournament?

JAMES DUCKWORTH: I've still got doubles with Marc Polmans, and I'm not sure yet when I'll be playing next. I'll have to speak to Wayne and sort of make a bit of a plan.

Q. I know it's hard to talk about other players, but some people are still talking about the Novak situation. Someone was saying there's an asterisk next to the tournament because he's the No. 1 player in the world. Do you buy into that at all?

JAMES DUCKWORTH: No, I don't think there's an asterisk.
