AUSTRALIAN OPEN

January 20, 2022

Diego Schwartzman

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Press Conference

C. O'CONNELL/D. Schwartzman

7-6, 6-4, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: A fantastic effort to get to this point through the AO. Are there some positives you can take out of today's fantastic match.

DIEGO SCHWARTZMAN: No. Not many positive things about the match. It was a difficult match for me, and I think he did great on court, and he deserved the win. But I didn't do a very good match.

Q. Would you describe what happened on the play where O'Connell told the chair umpire that he had indeed touched the ball, where you had said you thought he touched the ball?

DIEGO SCHWARTZMAN: Yeah, he touched the ball. Nothing happened. He touched the ball. That's it.

Q. How unusual is it do you think for someone on the other side to admit that in that case, and what sort of sportsmanship do you think he showed?

DIEGO SCHWARTZMAN: I think it was very, very clear. It was not like perception. It was so clear. I think nobody is going to lie under that position because it was very, very clear. It was so clear to know that he touched, and he said he touched, and that's it.
