AUSTRALIAN OPEN

January 25, 2022

Barbora Krejcikova

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Press Conference

M. KEYS/B. Krejcikova

6-3, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Obviously not the result you would have liked, but how would you reflect on another great singles performance in a slam?

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA: As you were saying, making quarterfinals in another slam, I think it's a perfect result. Even today I'm very disappointed with the loss, but I think, I mean, it's a really good start to the year. I mean, I'm just looking forward to improve and get better.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. I think it was your first match in singles against her. How much was it her and how much was it the conditions and the heat?

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA: Like everything, I was expecting that she will be serving really well and she'll be hitting hard. I mean, it was happening like that.

I mean, today I just wasn't able to show my best game. I mean overall, as I said, very good result. Next one's going to be even better.

Q. You called for the trainer at the end of the set. Were you feeling badly from the beginning of the match? What was going on?

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA: Well, I really don't know if I want to talk about it because, I mean, I just really don't want to take the victory from Madison.

I mean, I have been struggling with something. Yes, it was happening and I didn't feel good. I just don't want to talk about it because I think Madison, she really deserves the win and she really deserves to get the credit. That's how it is.

Q. Is that the same thing that was affecting you at the US Open against Garbine, as well?

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA: No. Today it was the heat with some physical conditions that started to bother me during after five games. I mean, from there on, you know, I just couldn't put it together.

Just still I didn't want to end it up. I wanted to finish match. I wanted to try to do my best. Yeah, I wasn't really able to do that. Still I think it's a really good experience and I can learn a lot from it.

Q. You have doubles now. How much does that help you process a disappointing singles result, a loss in singles? How focused are you now trying to snag another doubles title?

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA: Well, I'm still very focused. Even I lost today, I still want to do well in doubles. I still want to recovery well and get better for the next match.

I mean, I have a big focus on that. I really want to play well with my partner. I mean, even the way that I lost in singles, there is still doubles. I still want to do my best in doubles, too.

Q. Yesterday you played doubles late afternoon. Today you were out there. Can you give us a sense, was the heat and the conditions similar or much worse today?

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA: I mean, I think every single day is specific. I think yesterday was hot. Today was hot. I don't know if you can really compare it, those two days.

I mean, yeah, it's been hot.
