AUSTRALIAN OPEN

January 26, 2022

Kaia Kanepi

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Press Conference

I. SWIATEK/K. Kanepi

4-6, 7-6, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Unfortunately you didn't get the win today but you've had an amazing run. What have you made of the last month here?

KAIA KANEPI: I'm sorry, was that last month?

THE MODERATOR: How would you describe the last month here in Australia?

KAIA KANEPI: It has been really nice. I have had really good emotions. I like being in Melbourne.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Can you talk through the match. What do you think was the difference early on and why did the match shift?

KAIA KANEPI: It was really tough in the beginning. Actually I didn't feel the ball that well as I did in previous match. I thought I'm not playing that well today, but I still can fight, things can change.

It was a bit difficult in the beginning of second set. I thought she started playing much better. In the third I felt a bit heavy in my legs. That's why I think I made that many errors.

Q. Were you having problems with your hand?

KAIA KANEPI: No. It was the tape that I was adjusting.

Q. When she started to play better early in the second set, what was she doing?

KAIA KANEPI: I felt the balls were coming much faster from her. It was really quick.

Q. Were the conditions a factor at all today?

KAIA KANEPI: I don't know. Maybe. I don't know what it would have been when it was little less colder. The ball was flying quite fast.

Q. Can you reflect on what a great tournament you had.

KAIA KANEPI: Yes, it has been a great tournament. Maybe I'm happy in few days after. I feel quite tired right now to really feel that happy.

Q. What will be the key to celebrate getting your quarterfinal, making it at all four slams, appreciating what you've done?

KAIA KANEPI: I don't know. I'm not that great celebrator. I think I'm just going to take every day as it is, not celebrate much.

Q. Playing Swiatek, talk about her game, what makes her so dangerous and tough as an opponent.

KAIA KANEPI: Well, she has a great forehand of course. Good serve. She is getting a lot of balls back. It's also difficult sometimes with her spin to adjust to that during the point.
