THE AMERICAN EXPRESS

January 21, 2022

Patrick Cantlay

La Quinta, California, USA

PGA WEST Pete Dye Stadium Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Wind came up, I thought the golf course played a little harder. Happy or frustrated with your 68?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Neither. I felt like it was really solid golf, I didn't get the most out of it I possibly could, but another solid day and two more of those I should be right there.

Q. I know maybe a little frustrated with your 3-putt on 8 but I thought your speed on the greens, virtually the entire day, you had very few putts that you had to mark that did not go?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I actual putted really well today and made nothing. The greens were a little beat up and it was hard to make putts. But I rolled it really well and I rolled it how I wanted to, I just didn't get any to go in.

Q. 36 holes on the Stadium Course coming up this weekend. Last time you had a 61, have to have some good memories?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, definitely. It's a golf course that suits my game. We'll see how it plays tomorrow with the increased wind and if you drive the ball in the fairway, you get a lot of chances.

Q. I always think that good ball strikers play good in windy conditions. Once again 15 of 18 greens, I think you've missed only four greens the entire week.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, that would be a good stat to have the next 36 holes.

Q. 4-under 68, just kind of assess the round if you would.

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it was a solid day. I didn't get very much out of it. I hit the ball really well and then the wind picked up the last nine holes and made it a lot more difficult.

Q. You just said you putted great but made nothing. You still can take some confidence out of the, as far as your speed goes, and your putting just difference of it not going in here and there?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, golf is like that a little bit. I mean, some days everything goes in and some days nothing goes in. Yesterday everything went in, today nothing did. I'm still the same and so I just have to go out with the same mentality over the weekend and if I do I should be in a good spot.

Q. You got the Stadium the next two days, some weather challenges. What does that pose for you, especially with the wind tomorrow?

PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think usually you have to really put your foot on the gas and make a ton of birdies. Tomorrow if the forecast stays the same it will not be that kind of day and it's just, it will be a different challenge.

So controlling your golf ball will be a premium tomorrow and leaving your golf ball in the correct spot will be really key to scoring well.
