Press Conference

Team Poland - 2

Team Georgia - 0

THE MODERATOR: We have Hubi and Kamil from Team Poland. Hubi, you must be delighted with another win from Poland here at the ATP Cup.

HUBERT HURKACZ: Definitely, definitely happy. Happy for the win for Team Poland. At the end, it's the job to get a win. We did that. So happy for Kamil's performance. I started a bit slow, then I improved and played better.

So, you know, now our team is playing doubles, Jan and Szymon, so hopefully they play a good match and the next ask is with Argentina.

Q. Hubi, congrats. What time last night did you learn that you wouldn't be playing Basilashvili? Talk about how you have to quickly come up with a new game plan and learn about this new opponent.

HUBERT HURKACZ: So I think around 9:00 p.m. I learned that I'm not going to play Nikoloz. So definitely that, throughout the past two days here, aware, okay, next match is going to be against Nikoloz. So then just you need to adapt, watch some tape from your opponent and try to prepare a game plan.

Q. I guess the team had done some preparation because you would have been playing Aleksandre in the No. 2 single. Were people able to share any thoughts on how you should play him?

HUBERT HURKACZ: I mean, you know, we had some talks and I knew a little bit how he's gonna play. I was trying to, you know, focus as well on my game, tried to play my solid game.

Q. Just a general comment about what happened in the first set. You were strong on serve throughout. You didn't face a breakpoint. Can you explain what happened in the first set, why you didn't win that?

HUBERT HURKACZ: Well, I mean, he was playing really, really decent points. You know, I think I was maybe a bit too passive. I had some opportunities, and then didn't convert them.

When you're like having one, two, three, four opportunities and you don't convert them, then you might need to go into tiebreaker, and just played a couple of good shots. Yeah, so just needed to reset and be ready for the next one.

Q. Kamil, can you talk about how good the feeling is to know that your destiny to make the semifinals is now in your own hands if you win against Argentina. You go through for 3-0. Can you speak about that.

KAMIL MAJCHRZAK: Yeah, we were ready for every single match of this group. Definitely we were looking forward to have our deciding game against Argentina on Wednesday.

I was lucky to play the lefty guy today, so I'll be ready for the lefty guy from Argentina. Hubi had a nice match today with a little bit of emotions, with good tennis. So we will both be ready for the Argentina task.

Q. You have had two good wins yourself but now do face your biggest challenge against Delbonis. What are your thoughts about playing him?

KAMIL MAJCHRZAK: He's a great player, and he's in very good shape, that he prove in his first match here. I will watch his second match today. I'm pretty sure when it comes to the conversation about what to play, how to beat him, we will be ready.

Q. At short notice, you also had to change your game plan when you learned you would be playing someone different. What did you do last night? Did you go to YouTube to watch some of his matches?

KAMIL MAJCHRZAK: I was trying to find sometimes, but there was not much in the Internet. So let's say I asked my coach to have a look at him just a little bit during warmup. Then we discuss what I can do, and basically the point was to play my game from the beginning. Then if needed, we would adjust.

Q. So your coach was out there watching him practice?

KAMIL MAJCHRZAK: Yeah, to have at least a little bit of picture of his game. It was necessary. I had to prepare for the match already, but he made me prepare for the match, as well.
