CHICK-FIL-A PEACH BOWL: PITT VS MICHIGAN STATE

December 30, 2021

Davis Beville

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Pitt Panthers

Press Conference

Michigan State 31, Pitt 21

THE MODERATOR: We are joined by quarterback Davis Beville. Questions.

Q. Talk us through when Nick goes down and you're told that you're going into the game.

DAVIS BEVILLE: It's been on my mindset all year to be ready when my number is called. Obviously with Kenny not playing, I was a little bit more prepared to. When he went down, I was 100% ready to go.

Q. It seemed like Michigan State was throwing a lot of pre-snap movement to throw you off. Did any of that confuse you, kept you hidden where the pressure was coming from?

DAVIS BEVILLE: Yeah, they did a couple different things up front, moving around in the secondary. Using my hands was a big thing tonight, trying to get them to show their hand. But, yeah, they got me a couple times.

Q. Coach said the third-and-one toss play on the last possession was a check at the line of scrimmage. Walk us through what happened there. Did you make a check, or was that the original play call?

DAVIS BEVILLE: That was the call before the check. We got the look we wanted. They just beat us on that play.

Q. Davis, what did you see on the final pass that resulted in the pick-six? Was there a guy open there and the defender happened to jump in?

DAVIS BEVILLE: Yeah, in our empty looks, they mugged up, put those two backs in the box. Took a step forward, I thought he was coming, tried to put it right behind him, he stepped back and made a great play. Give all the credit to him.

Q. At that point I think you completed five passes in a row, you were moving down the field, at the 26. How did that swing of emotions -- you went from feeling like you're going to win the game, then it goes to the complete opposite. Tell us about that experience.

DAVIS BEVILLE: We talked about it a lot, never get too high, never get too low. Coach Junko always says saw that wood, stay in the middle.

That's kind of how it was. Obviously it's not the outcome we wanted or expected. Just got to keep my head high and my chin up.

Q. Davis, what kind of support did you get from your teammates throughout the week? Pat told us you took 80% of the second team snaps. After the interception, seemed like you had a lot of guys coming up to you. What can you say about the teammates, what they've done?

DAVIS BEVILLE: Yeah, this team means everything to me. Definitely disappointed to let those guys down. I mean, we missed some plays here and there. I'm obviously guilty of it.

My team's great. I couldn't ask for anyone better. Those guys are just awesome to be around, whether it's the locker room or it's out and about. Yeah, they showed me love the whole time. I've got their back and they've got mine. That's it.
