LPGA Q-SERIES

December 9, 2021

Janie Jackson

Mobile, Alabama, USA

Magnolia Grove

Quick Quotes

Q. I guess we'll just start at the obvious. Nice little ace today on 4.

JANIE JACKSON: Yeah.

Q. Pitching wedge. Just take us through that golf shot.

JANIE JACKSON: It was, yeah, 130. I mean, grip down just a hair. A bit -- I can't remember if it was into the breeze or not. Anyway, I took a little bit off it. I liked the ball flight. It was low. Just held its line perfectly. Landed a couple paces behind the pin and rolled back in.

It was good shot, but, I mean, you never know until it actually drops. I had never even had a hole in one until March earlier this year, and now I've had my second. It's kind of cool.

Q. Were they both in competition?

JANIE JACKSON: Yeah.

Q. What tournament that was in March?

JANIE JACKSON: Symetra in Mesa.

Q. What was the reaction? I mean, having only your second ever one in Q-Series is kind of a good omen.

JANIE JACKSON: I mean, just smile. Got a high five from everybody in the group. I mean, it's always nice to be able to walk up to the green without a putter in your hand.

Q. Are you buying anybody drinks tonight?

JANIE JACKSON: No, no drinking. That will have that wait a couple days.

But, you know, it was a fun feeling.

Q. Obviously pretty easily made it to this week in Dothan. What positives were you carrying with you from last week to this week?

JANIE JACKSON: I mean, I'm striking the ball well. I had few miss-hits today. Missed couple left, but just small issues. Just a face issue. It's me over-rotating the face, so nothing that I'm stressed about.

I know where I messed up when I did. I was able to save par a couple times when I needed to, so just another steady day.

Q. Yeah. 4-under 68 I would say so. How are you feeling about your game as a whole? I know you were talking a little bit and you were pretty happy, and then it was in the middle, and now it seems pretty solid considering what you did.

JANIE JACKSON: Yeah. I mean, eight rounds of competitive golf, like it's not easy for anybody to go out and go super deep every single day. Except some people are.

But, I mean, it's just a patience thing. Like I've been here before and I know that it's just like -- there were a couple times I could have gotten frustrated because I didn't make some putts or I missed in a place where I didn't want to miss, but one errant hole or one errant swing isn't going to hurt you.

You just have to stay patient.

Q. We talked about this last week. You're from Huntsville. Have you played this golf course before, or either of these golf courses before?

JANIE JACKSON: No. I came down here to Dothan three weeks ago I think, two, three weeks ago before last week and just played it once. Whipped around real quick just to sort of the get a feel for what was coming.

So, no, I had never even been here before until a couple weeks ago.

Q. I guess just kind of looking at the weather this week, obviously we had the massive fog delay this morning that derailed everybody.

JANIE JACKSON: Yeah.

Q. Is this typical? You're an Alabama girl; is this typical for southern Alabama this time of year?

JANIE JACKSON: Well, this is what I was expecting when I packed my bags. I packed eight, ten pairs of pants and like two pairs of shorts. Brought my thermals and neck and hand warmers and everything.

This is what I was expecting last week. Every day we were out on the course I was like, Wow, I'm hot. I didn't bring enough shorts. This is what I was expecting. I don't know if this is typical for this far down south this time of year, but up where I'm from this is what it looks like every single day this time of year.

Q. Does that feel like an advantage at all knowing how this grass plays in this type of temperature?

JANIE JACKSON: I mean, no. We play so much golf throughout the year that we play in every single sort of condition imaginable. But, I mean, the air was thick today. Not much breeze; a little bit.

But, I'm cold. It's probably like 55 out. I don't know what it is, but my hands are cold.

Q. Yeah. And then last question: You weren't super like looking forward to the Alabama game last week. They eked it out. How happy are you?

JANIE JACKSON: Yeah, I was super surprised. I shouldn't say surprised, but I was really happy. I missed the first quarter of that game because we were still playing, but I think that was like the only time we were down was in the first quarter. So I'm glad I missed that, otherwise I probably would've been real nervous watching the TV.

But team looked awesome. You know, we'll see if we have to play Georgia again, what happens.

Q. What's more nerve wracking, playoff football or Q-Series?

JANIE JACKSON: Tough call. No, I'm kidding. I mean, it's funny. I don't really feel any nerves this week. I just feel like -- like I told you last week, I've been out of school for five years and it's taken me longer than I would've liked.

I've come to learn that whenever it's my time it's my time, whether it be this week or not. That's just sort of my mindset. If it happens for me, great. If not, I'm just going to keep working for it.
