BIG 12 CONFERENCE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: BAYLOR VS OKLAHOMA STATE

December 4, 2021

Devin Harper

Arlington, Texas, USA

AT&T Stadium

Oklahoma State Cowboys

Postgame Press Conference

Baylor 21, Oklahoma State 16

Q. I didn't catch everybody, but were you one of the guys that stayed out on the field after the final gun, or did you head to the locker room very quick?

DEVIN HARPER: I took my time coming off. I mean, we fought. Unfortunately, we lost, but just got to look past it, man. I don't know what to tell you.

Q. What was your view of that final play like with Dezmon running to the corner?

DEVIN HARPER: I thought he was going to make it, to be honest. Great effort by him. He tried his hardest. We told him in the locker room, you tried. You can't expect nothing else from him. He gave 110% the whole time. That's all we can get from him.

Q. What was it like seeing on that third down play called up for your teammates on the defensive side, Tyler Lacy?

DEVIN HARPER: I mean, we seen a play before in practice. We just was hoping it was going to work, and they covered it good, and it is what it is at that point.

Q. Shapen started 17 of 17 in that first half. What was kind of making him so effective against you guys in that first half?

DEVIN HARPER: Like Malcolm said, they had a whole bunch of eye candy and a lot of chip releases that we were ready for run, and people were losing their eyes and just got to stare your keys and do your job at that point, and we didn't do that.

Q. You guys obviously knew what was at stake today. Big 12 title, potentially a playoff spot. You talked about the disappointment. Is it not being champions? Is it losing the chance of a playoff? Is it all of it? I don't know. When you think about, what is hardest to thing about right now.

DEVIN HARPER: It's all of it as a whole. Obviously, we all want to win. That's the goal. We are all competitive and not coming on top, it sucks. I don't care what anybody say. We want to win, and that's the main goal no matter what no matter how we got to do it. Everybody poured their hearts out. When you don't leave with a W, it's just not the same.

Q. You guys got down 21-3, and Knowles said -- or maybe that was Malcolm. Somebody said we got to pitch a shut-out in the second half. You guys did that. Your offense takes the field with however much left, three minutes left, and starts moving down the field. Did you guys think, hey, we've done it, we did what we need to do, and these guys are going to go score?

DEVIN HARPER: We did our job, and, I mean, we were, like, yeah, this is the opportunity. This is what we waited on, and they got up the field. We just couldn't get it in, and they tried, like I said, and at that point you can't argue with them, and then you just tell them you tried your hardest, and you got to move forward from it now at this point.
