DAVIS CUP FINALS

November 28, 2021

Zsombor Piros

Team Hungary

Press Conference

Z. PIROS/M. Cilic

6-4, 5-7, 6-4

Hungary - 1

Croatia - 1

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. The biggest result of your career since yesterday really.

ZSOMBOR PIROS: Yeah.

Q. How are you feeling emotionally, physically, spiritually?

ZSOMBOR PIROS: I'm shaking, to be honest. I try to rest in the locker room. My hands, my legs was a little bit shaking, so it's hard to handle physically.

Of course, emotionally I'm so -- I don't say it so often, but I'm proud of myself, for my team, because we have maybe the biggest heart and we are so with fighting and we are showing it to the world this weekend. I'm very glad that so many people see the Hungarian spirit.

This level of the tiredness - I don't know how to say - I never experienced it before. Once I was close when I played against Vesely, but it's a little bit even more than that.

I'm exhausted, but hopefully I can recover in the next few days.

Q. Is this a new level of tennis you've hit this weekend? Is this the best you've played?

ZSOMBOR PIROS: Today, yes, I think I cannot do any better at the moment. Of course, me and my team, we are working on that to get this level higher and higher, like everyone else in the ranking.

But, yeah, at the moment I cannot do better than that. That's my a hundred percent when I was playing today.

Q. With the level of your ranking just now, the opportunity to play in arenas like this is quite a rare thing. If this was a wild card into a tournament or coming through qualifying, would it be different or would you feel different than it is with this Davis Cup atmosphere? Has that helped push you on today?

ZSOMBOR PIROS: Yes, yes. I don't really think that I could win that match, like, on the ATP or any other event because I really feel that it was not just me, it was the supporters as well, my captain, especially my coaches (indiscernible). They were believing in me.

The thing they said, not just the words and everything, but how they said the things. It was motivating me. I didn't really try the scoreline in the third set, it was 4-1. I gave myself less than 1% on hard court against Grand Slam champion. Even now I don't really believe that I did the win. Yeah, I'm really, really happy about it.

Q. In terms of belief going forwards, knowing that you can play with the likes of Millman, Cilic, does that give you extra drive to try to make that jump to the ATP?

ZSOMBOR PIROS: Yes, hopefully. If this doesn't give me the drive, then I don't know what will. I think it will give me very much confidence for the next year and for the next matches. Yeah, the belief, the belief, that I can play this level. Even in the bad situations, it will be. I will think about that and hopefully it can help me during the tough matches in the upcoming months and years.

Q. When you were a junior, there was a note in your bio that said you did magic tricks. Do you still?

ZSOMBOR PIROS: Yeah, I do it, but now I'm more focused on tennis. Yeah, when I was 14, I started to do some magic tricks, but not so much, not incredibly well. Mostly with coins. Yes, I did that, not so much in these days. I started to do that with the tennis ball sometimes, yeah. It's more important.

But, yeah, it was my hobby.
