WOMEN'S AMATEUR ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

November 8, 2021

Maddison Hinson-Tolchard

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Quick Quotes

Q. Maddison, thank you so much for joining us. We're here, of course, in Abu Dhabi for the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific. How are you feeling to be here?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: It's awesome to be here. Good to be traveling overseas again and playing some golf with the Aussies.

Q. Yeah, it would, I'm sure it's been quite a while since you've seen all the girls. Is it nice to be back and catching up?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: Yeah, I haven't seen a lot of them in probably nearly two years. A couple of college girls I've seen, but Cassie (Porter) and Kelsey (Bennet) I haven't seen in a long while. It's nice to be around some familiar accents again.

Q. You've all been out on course playing. What were your thoughts on the layout? Any holes that stand out as maybe a bit of trouble or a bit of an opportunity?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: The course is great. I think it's a really great setup. A couple of holes playing a bit longer, but definitely some opportunities out there to score really well. Definitely 17 and 18 we played them into the wind finishing. They're standout holes. They're going to be pretty tough. Otherwise, I think the course is great.

Q. You played those holes in some really strong winds that's just picked up here. Do you feel like that's been extra good preparation for you?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: Yeah, definitely. If it's going to get windy during the week. I think finishing with those two holes in the wind is definitely going to be good. I think, if the wind picks up, the course is going to play so much different, but yes it's going to be different.

Q. Being from Perth, would you like to see it a bit windy this week?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: Yeah, definitely. It gets a bit windy in Perth, and obviously in Oklahoma as well, we're used to the wind. Any bit of wind I'm not afraid of.

Q. You just mentioned Oklahoma. Of course you're in college out there. I believe you had a team win just a couple weeks ago coming into this championship?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: Yeah, we went 4-0. We won all four events. But we had a big win at East Lake Cup as a team, which was pretty awesome. That was a great event. Strong team, so it was good to come out on top there.

Q. Do you feel like having had a win quite recently fills you with some confidence and a bit of momentum for this week?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: Yeah, definitely. It's always good having some confidence coming into an event like this. The team played awesome at East Lake, and individually I played really well as well. So I think it's a big confidence booster.

Q. Great. Can you just talk to us a little bit about your season and what your form's been like and any sort of standout results for yourself?

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: I think I played pretty good over the fall, had a top five chucked in there. Also, I came second at East Lake. So that was really good. I think the other two events were strong as well.

But as a team, we're so competitive. So the golf's always good. Yeah, definitely a lot of work's being put into the fall. A lot of work on short game and accuracy into the greens. So, yeah, I think it's helped a lot.

Q. I believe you have played in the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific before. Can you talk to us a little bit about what this championship means to the players in this region and how good it is for development.

MADDISON HINSON-TOLCHARD: Yeah, I played this two years ago in Japan. That was my first one. I think it's a great opportunity for us. There's so many great opportunities that come out of it. If you win, obviously, you get a few majors and Augusta as well, so that's going to be good for any development.

And it's just good to be able to play against such good players as well. It's good competition, and everyone really enjoys it.
