MLB WORLD SERIES: ASTROS VS BRAVES

October 30, 2021

Zack Greinke

Jose Altuve

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Truist Park

Houston Astros

Postgame 4 Press Conference

Atlanta - 3, Houston - 2

Q. Zack, I know the result didn't turn out how you guys want, but this is the most pitches you've thrown in a while since September. How did you feel being stretched out that far, and what was it like to pitch tonight?

ZACK GREINKE: It felt better than it has in a while. Threw some practice innings during some of the off days, so that helped out. Tough game, though.

Q. Zack, I know it's not first and foremost, but if the DH goes into the NL next year as expected, you might be the last pitcher to get a hit in the World Series. I was just curious your thoughts about that.

ZACK GREINKE: We'll see.

Q. Jose, obviously, you got Kyle Wright for a home run, but that was the only run he allowed. What was he doing to be so effective from your vantage point tonight?

JOSE ALTUVE: He's really good. Two-seam, four-seam mix, plays really good. His curveball is probably similar to Charlie Morton type of curveball. It's really good. He's good.

Q. Zack, had you reached your limit in terms of pitches, or do you think you could have gone longer?

ZACK GREINKE: I started to get tired that last inning a little bit when Riley was having a really long at-bat. So it was probably pretty close to the limit, that's for sure.

Q. Jose, you've seen Javier pitch really well in the postseason for the last two years. How surprising was it to see him come in and get hit the way he did?

JOSE ALTUVE: I think he pitched -- even though they had two homers, he made good pitches tonight. That's baseball. Their hitter has a bat, and they've been working to get those homers too.

I don't think he pitched bad. He's really good. He has a bright future in front of him.

Q. Jose, what conversations, if any, did you have in the clubhouse after this, and how do you guys kind of handle that this 3-1 deficit as you fight to get it back to Houston?

JOSE ALTUVE: Just basically focus on one game at a time. That's it. That's pretty much what we talk about. If we win tomorrow, then try to win Game 6 and see what happens. But we've got to focus on one game, and that game is tomorrow.

Q. For the offense as a group, obviously, the runs have been a little harder to come by in this series than they were in the previous series. What do you see as far as the approach the Braves staff has taken to your lineup so far?

JOSE ALTUVE: They have good pitchers, and they've been executing every pitch. So they're not giving us a lot of pitches to hit. We're trying hard as hitters. We've got a good lineup, we know, but sometimes you have to give credit to the other team as well.

Q. Dusty, when he was in here, he said that you looked like vintage Greinke tonight. What do you think about him saying that, and did you feel that way?

ZACK GREINKE: I felt good, definitely. Best outing for me in like a month and a half or so. So, yeah, it was good.

Q. You're finally at the end of your Diamondbacks contract, the one that they gave you. What's your plans? Do you want to pitch again next year, and how much longer would you like to pitch?

ZACK GREINKE: Tough question. I don't think I want to answer that at this time.
