October 22, 2021

Ruoning Yin

Venice, Florida, USA

Plantation Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. First of all, a great day for you, great score of 65. Let's start with today's round. How did it go out there for you?

RUONING YIN: Everything is pretty good, pretty solid. Yeah, I just made a couple putts.

My driver, actually my long game is much better than yesterday, and the ball-striking is good. Everything is just good.

Q. You've never been to stage 2, never competed in stage 2; how are you managing the courses so well? How are you doing so well your first time here?

RUONING YIN: I mean, it's just to make top 45 to get through to final stage, so I just don't put much pressure on myself. I set a goal for every day, like 10 fairways and 12 greens and four out of six saves up-and-down. If I can make it, I think that's a pretty good round for me.

Q. Were those your goals for today that you just mentioned?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. You wanted to hit 10 fairways?

RUONING YIN: 10 fairways, 12 greens.

Q. And you wanted four out of six up-and-downs?

RUONING YIN: Yes.

Q. Did you accomplish your goals?

RUONING YIN: Yeah. I did pretty well.

Q. Do you know how many fairways and greens you hit?

RUONING YIN: I hit probably like 11 fairways and 16 greens. And all my up-and-downs.

Q. Do you know how many up-and-downs you had?

RUONING YIN: Two.

Q. So you didn't have to worry about 6, which was nice.

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. You don't have a bogey through 36 holes.

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. This is my third year out here. I've never seen that happen. How good does that feel? It must show yourself how good your game is right now.

RUONING YIN: Yeah. That gives me a lot of confidence because I think earlier this year it's been pretty tough for me because I changed my swing, changed everything and just start over again.

Q. You kind of wiped away what you had and started all over?

RUONING YIN: Yeah, so it's been pretty tough. I didn't play well in the U.S. Open.

Q. You qualified for the U.S. Open?

RUONING YIN: No, I think last year's LPGA --

Q. In 2020?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. What tournament is that?

RUONING YIN: China LPGA.

Q. So you did well in the tournament there to qualify for the U.S. Open?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. So you'll play the U.S. Open next year?

RUONING YIN: No, I played this year.

Q. 2021?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. And you did well in 2020 on the China LPGA tournament to qualify?

RUONING YIN: Yes.

Q. I was reading something, a little bit about you, how you went to a golf academy when you were 10, 11 years old.

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. What did you learn going to a golf academy that helped you get to this point in your career?

RUONING YIN: At first I don't really like golf at all. Because my mom said if you go to the academy then you can watch two movies on the weekend. So okay, then I'll go.

I think when I started playing, like number third months, when I played a tournament in Guangdong, and I finished third place, so that gave me some confidence.

Q. So your third month ever playing golf you finished in third place in a tournament in Guangdong?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. That's pretty amazing. You said you didn't like it at first. Was it the movies that changed your mind about it?

RUONING YIN: Yeah, obviously.

Q. So the movies kind of enticed you to want to play more?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. Do you remember the first movie you watched after you started playing?

RUONING YIN: I can't remember. I don't remember.

Q. And then I also read that you hold two Guinness world records; did you know that?

RUONING YIN: Yeah, I know that.

Q. Did you get a plaque for them and everything?

RUONING YIN: I'm sorry.

Q. Sometimes they give out plaques for Guinness world records.

RUONING YIN: Oh, the plaques? Yeah, I have that.

Q. Let me look it up, exactly what they were. You have the record for most consecutive wins on the China LPGA, and the most consecutive wins on the China LPGA from professional debut. So since you made your professional debut. Did you win your professional debut?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. And then how many did you win?

RUONING YIN: I think three.

Q. So that's the most consecutive wins on the China LPGA and the most consecutive wins from your professional debut until your final win.

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. How did you manage to accomplish three straight wins like that at such a young age?

RUONING YIN: I think at the time I was so excited about this, but after all, I think there's always someone that's better than you, so just keep going.

Q. You're always pushing yourself?

RUONING YIN: Yeah.

Q. And then last one I have for you. What were your goals when you came here this week? Obviously top 45, but was there something that you were trying to prove to yourself in your game or something that you were trying to learn about playing golf here in the States? Anything outside of just advancing to Q-Series?

RUONING YIN: I've always been pretty good in the States. Yeah, just assess golf every day, just try to make it.

Q. Do you know your goals for tomorrow?

RUONING YIN: I think it's about the same thing, just 10 fairways, 12 greens, four out of six.

Q. And then maybe you can watch a movie tomorrow?

RUONING YIN: Yeah, of course, Breaking Bad every night.
