LPGA QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT STAGE II

October 21, 2021

Allisen Corpuz

Venice, Florida, USA

Plantation Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Solid start today, 2-under. How did you find the Bobcat course?

ALLISEN CORPUZ: I mean, I think both courses are pretty challenging, but it was really nice to be the first group out there. You get the first look at the greens. Hit some really good approach shots on the front nine and then kind of just made a couple of really solid pars coming in, as well. But I think it's definitely a course where you just have to be patient and let shots come. Like if you make a bogey, just don't let it affect you too much.

Q. You're a newly minted professional. When exactly did you turn pro?

ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, so I waited to play the Curtis Cup as an amateur, which is right after stage 1, and then right after that, I guess I was a pro but didn't play in my first pro event for a couple of weeks, which was a Cactus Tour event I guess mid-September, so that was my first pro event.

Q. You're one of a few players that chose to stay all four years and then your bonus COVID year at USC. How valuable was that five years of prep work for you?

ALLISEN CORPUZ: Yeah, I think the decision was definitely easy because Q-school was canceled last year, but getting my master's degree just means so much to me, and then I just think five years of getting more tournament prep and playing with other really good girls, practicing with them, too, our team has always been really solid, it just really shows you where you need to be working on your game and where you can get better and where your strengths are, as well.

Q. You've had kind of a crazy 2021; obviously getting that master's degree, playing in the Curtis Cup, on the winning Curtis Cup team. How would you evaluate your year as a whole?

ALLISEN CORPUZ: I mean, it's been awesome. I think it definitely gets tough towards the end of the season. Finals, it gets a little crazy. But I really just wanted to put a good year out there, and yeah, Curtis Cup was definitely a huge goal that I'm glad I accomplished, and I kind of just feels like I was ready to turn pro.

Q. Coming out here as a newly minted professional, what are some of the expectations you had coming into the week?

ALLISEN CORPUZ: I mean, I know I'm good enough. As long as I play well, I'll get through, and I think everyone out here, as long as you have a good week, you'll get through. So yeah, just staying patient, trying to see some good shots out there, and really trying not to put too many expectations on myself, just trying to go out there and put up some good rounds.

Q. Looking ahead to tomorrow, obviously a solid 2-under round on the Bobcat course. You're playing the Panther course tomorrow. How different do these two courses play?

ALLISEN CORPUZ: I mean, there are the green speeds, just because these are newer greens, they're a little slower, and I think the Panther is a little more forgiving. You don't have to be as precise on your tee shots and about keeping it in play. They're both still pretty tough courses, so still just trying to stay patient, and I think maybe a couple more good looks at birdie on the other course hopefully.
