BMW LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

October 21, 2021

Jin Young Ko

Busan, South Korea

LPGA International Busan

Press Conference

Q. Jin Young, take me through the day today. I know maybe not exactly what you wanted, but how fortunate and how thankful are you to be back here playing in Korea again?

JIN YOUNG KO: It was raining. It was cold. So it was a tough round. But I have to say I did my best. And maybe I think I didn't do well, as much as I had expected, because when you play in Korea, there's that extra bit in you that wants to do a little bit better, and there's that extra bit of pressure as well.

But I have to say I really did my best today, and I think I wrapped up the round nicely with a birdie.

Q. Take us through that birdie there and what that did for your confidence and for your day as a whole.

JIN YOUNG KO: So with that last birdie, I had 162 meters to the pin, and I used my 6-iron. And I think the ball just went as planned, the putting went as planned.

And it's always nice to finish off a round with a birdie because you can start the next round with a certain level of comfort, so you're comfortable going into the second round.

Q. I know the streak ended today. But for you, what does it mean for just you and your career to be able to tie records with the greats like So Yeon and Annika and just the way that you've been playing recently?

JIN YOUNG KO: Of course because of this round, I will not break the record for the most consecutive rounds in the 60s, but I think I was able to tie with Annika and So Yeon because I worked hard every moment and I gave it my best every hole and every shot.

So I think that this in itself is really meaningful, and really 14 consecutive rounds in the 60s is not easy. I worked hard a lot, and also you need a bit of luck as well. So I gave it my best. And in the last event I got a birdie from 60 feet, and I was able to finish in the 60s.

So I think that every hole counts, and if I just do what I did so far, then I go beyond 14 rounds in the 60s, and I think I can even break my own record. So I think for me it's important to just continue down this path and grow as a player.

Q. What will you take away to work on heading into the next couple of days here at the BMW Ladies Championship?

JIN YOUNG KO: I think because of the rain and everything, I was a bit busy, so I missed points in my game where I think I should have communicated more with my caddie.

But in the rest of the rounds I understand the weather is better the course condition is better, so I hope I can thoroughly enjoy the 54 holes.
