AL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: ASTROS VS RED SOX

October 19, 2021

Cristian Javier

Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Fenway Park

Houston Astros

Pregame 4 Press Conference

Q. Do you expect to pitch at some point tonight, and realistically, how far can you go in terms of pitches, if things are going well for you?

CRISTIAN JAVIER: Yeah, I'm prepared for the game for today. You know, I'm ready to get in there if they need me for sure. As far as an exact pitch count, I don't have one, but God willing, I'll be ready for the game today and give my team everything I've got.

Q. Brent Strom seemed to indicate yesterday that the Red Sox might be picking up on some pitch-tipping that you guys are doing. Has that been addressed, and is that something that will be a concern in this series going forward for the pitching staff?

CRISTIAN JAVIER: We're not worried about that too much. If there's any kind of small adjustments that need to be made, we'll do so, but it's not something that we're thinking about too much. We just have to go forward with the same energy and focus as always. Just worry about doing the job.

Q. Now that you've been around Carlos Correa for a couple of years, what makes him unique as a leader, especially if the team is facing tough situations? How is he able to reach you guys, use his voice to lead this team?

CRISTIAN JAVIER: He is always helping us. He has always been a good leader in that way. He is always keeping us in a positive mindset, always giving advice to all the different guys on the team. He is always showing up to the stadium with the same love for the game and the same positive attitude. He's a leader in that way that just shows us and gives us that kind of example to follow.

Q. You have really cut down on your walks in the last couple of outings and especially in the postseason. What mechanical adjustments did you make to maybe get your command a little bit better, and how comfortable do you feel with your mechanics right now?

CRISTIAN JAVIER: Yeah, I feel really good about where I'm at right now, thank God. We spent a couple of weeks and we were working on some small adjustments, and I feel like I've been able to have the results that I want to with those. I feel like I'm good where I'm at right now. Just a matter of continuing to work, continuing to stay on top of things, but I feel really good about where I'm at right now, thank God.
