ICC T20 WORLD CUP 2021

October 19, 2021

Assad Vala

Muscat , Oman

Oman Cricket Academy Ground

Papua New Guinea

Post Match Media Conference

Scotland - 165/9 (20), Papua New Guinea - 148 (19.3)

Q. One question on your personal wicket, I saw you were signaling to the stands for a change in gloves just before you got up. Was that a factor new playing the loose shot on the edge?

ASSAD VALA: No.

Q. Okay. Charles Amini's, it was second runout and another confusion, between the wickets, maybe something of a concern for the team?

ASSAD VALA: Maybe for CJ.

Q. Just wanted to understand, obviously it was a fighting performance from your team today. What are the positives that you guys will take into the final group?

ASSAD VALA: I think our bowling, our fielding was really good. I think we spoke about -- yesterday about middle order batting where we were in a really good position and we crumbled.

But today, I think our top order didn't produce and the low order stood out. I think for us, it's about putting a full game, batters top order to lower contributing and the bowlers, I think they just need to continue executing their skills.

But I thought the fielding and bowling were exceptional today.

Q. Different challenge ahead for you in the final game. How will you change your approach potentially ahead of the game against Bangladesh?

ASSAD VALA: Ahead of the game, I think like I said, we need to start well and give ourselves a chance in both our bowling and our batting. I think the approach stays the same but we just need to be mentally good enough. I think we were nervous in our first World Cup, but you just have to understand the opportunity and realize it's a very good opportunity to play against good teams. So we need to accept that and go and play our best.

Q. How important is the supporting you were receiving from home in helping you gather the momentum to win the final game in the group?

ASSAD VALA: The support from back home has been really good. Every game we have gone into, we try to win those games, but it's still going to be the same. We just need to be better in executing our skills. I think the support back home has been really good. It's just the players, we need to be prepared and go in and do our job, and I think we should be fine.
