AL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: ASTROS VS RED SOX

October 15, 2021

Yordan Alvarez

Houston, Texas, USA

Minute Maid Park

Houston Astros

Pregame 1 Press Conference

Q. Gary Pettis was saying yesterday that he feels like you have no limitations anymore when you are in the outfield. Is that how you feel, and have you felt that way all season?

YORDAN ALVAREZ: Yeah, for sure. I think the time that I was able to spend playing in the outfield this year, I think I was able to demonstrate that I was healthy enough, and I feel good playing out there in the outfield.

Q. Can you just talk about how big this is for you having missed last year but being able to contribute this year in the playoffs and the postseason?

YORDAN ALVAREZ: Yeah, really happy. Really happy. Everybody knows it's a great team. They did everything they could last year to be able to win, so to be here this season and be able to help out and do everything that I can to help the team win is really good. Really happy about it.

Q. Without Lance the team will have to hit more and be scoring more runs, so what does you think about what the offense needs to do now.

YORDAN ALVAREZ: Yeah, we have to go out there and do the same job that we've been doing. We know we're about to face a lot of good arms on their side, but we need to just keep having the same mentality of just doing the job that's at hand and try to take advantage of the opportunities and score some runs when they present themselves.

Q. How big is the opportunity and the experience and what does it mean to maybe you able to take advantage here at home?

YORDAN ALVAREZ: It's really big. It means a lot. It feels good to be able to play at home here. But I was just joking around with the guys that my first year in the Big Leagues I was playing in a World Series, so I don't think it can get much bigger than that.

Q. How much have you grown in the last two years since you were in that World Series as a person and as a ballplayer?

YORDAN ALVAREZ: I think it's beneficial to have that experience so quickly. Just a couple of months with the Big Leagues I was already in a World Series. It wasn't something that I was expecting. So just to have that experience I think has really helped me just from a growth standpoint.

Q. If you were an opposing pitcher, how would you feel about facing this Astros lineup, yourself included?

YORDAN ALVAREZ: I've never really thought about that, to be honest, but I think it would be very difficult.

Q. Can you just talk about how close you all are in that clubhouse? How you all have that family environment and family mentality?

YORDAN ALVAREZ: I've never been in another Big League clubhouse, so I can't tell you exactly, but I can assure you that not many other teams have the kind of unity that we have in that clubhouse, and I think that's part of what makes this team special.
