NL DIVISION SERIES: GIANTS VS DODGERS

October 13, 2021

Julio Urias

San Francisco, California, USA

Oracle Park

Los Angeles Dodgers

Workout Day Press Conference

Q. The Giants have seen you enough, you've faced them enough, but do you feel like you just have to go with your strengths tomorrow night and not try to change too much?

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, I think we have a strategy going into the game, but tomorrow we're going to finalize that plan and go with what's worked well for me and that's attacking hitters all season. And I think that's something that I focused on and that's something that I'm going to try to do tomorrow. And it's going to be one of those opportunities for me to go out there and do the things that I've been doing, but also try to strategize a plan the way we want to attack these guys tomorrow.

Q. Last postseason the Dodgers used you as a starter, as a reliever, to help win the World Series. This year you're a starter. Is the preparation different? How does this, how is this different from a year ago?

JULIO URÍAS: I think the only thing that's really changed is the routine. Going from a starting reliever is obviously just routine-oriented. You change your routine when you're going to throw a side, when you're going to throw a bullpen. You're always kind of waiting on the games or the series expectancy.

But nothing for me mentally as changed. No, my focus has stayed the same. I've always been trying to give it my 100 percent and doing everything I can to help the team win.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, I felt very confident that I was going to be able to do this. That's always been a goal to go out every fifth day and go out there and pitch the way that I have.

Obviously I learned a lot of lessons from the misfires, from the good things. So it's something that you take in from start to start and it's something that I knew I could do and I was able to do.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, I think everything has worked well. Something that comes with pitching every five days is finding that consistency and that routine, being able to go out there and kind of learn from your mistakes, try to learn from what you were trying to do. That allows me to do it by pitching every five days.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, I haven't got any messages from anybody, any famous stars, but I know they have me in thought, in mind.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: I hope to see the Mexican soccer game tonight.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, I think in a game like that, the adrenaline kind of kicks in and takes over. You know, just not try to do too much of ourselves, not try to do less of ourselves, just go out there and play the game. It's just another game, try to think about it as that, as another game, and just prepare and do the best we can when we get out there.

Q. You and Walker have obviously had some huge October moments the last couple years. How close have you two gotten over the last couple years?

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, our relationship has always been good. We've always had a really good friendship, even through the minor leagues. And I think I just watch him. I watch him compete. I watch how he goes about the game. I watch about what he does to prepare for the game. And it's something that we talk, we talk about how he goes about his business and it's just something that, for me, it kind of pushes me as well. And I think even last night it kind of sets the stage for me to do what I need to do for us tomorrow.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, you know, I don't really think about that. I know that I'll have the support of all the Mexican people in the Mexican community and it's something that I'm going to carry with me, but it's not something I think about. It's something that I'm going to use, but I kind of want to use it as another game. Pitch tomorrow, focus myself on pitching tomorrow and helping us win.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, I think tomorrow I'm just going to focus on taking it as another game and try to do whatever I can to help us win.

Q. (Question in Spanish.)

JULIO URÍAS: Yeah, I think tomorrow the message when I take the mound is to give everything I have of me, 100 percent of everything I can, I think that's the focus and our energy across the locker room is to try to put the team in the best position to win, but also I know that we're going to go out there and give it everything we have and that's all we can do.
