NL DIVISION SERIES: GIANTS VS DODGERS

October 11, 2021

Dave Roberts

Los Angeles, California, USA

Dodger Stadium

Los Angeles Dodgers

Postgame 3 Press Conference

San Francisco Giants - 1, Los Angeles Dodgers - 0

Q. Do you have a Game 4 starter yet?

DAVE ROBERTS: No. I think we got to circle up as a group. What I will say is that everything's on the table.

Q. That includes Walker Buehler?

DAVE ROBERTS: Everything's on the table.

Q. You have been in situations like this before. What's the message for the team facing elimination tomorrow?

DAVE ROBERTS: Just win tomorrow. Like I just said, everything's on the table and our focus has to turn to tomorrow and whatever it takes to win tomorrow and then we'll kind of pick up the pieces after that.

Q. Do you think Gavin Lux's ball was out off the bat?

DAVE ROBERTS: Yeah, I did. I think any other night the CT ball, the Gavin Lux ball, would have been home runs, yeah.

Q. How big a factor do you think that wind played tonight?

DAVE ROBERTS: It was huge. It played, those two balls right there, it would have been a different outcome. But those are the elements that both teams had to play with and that's baseball.

Q. Camilo Doval for them, two scoreless innings. He's been pretty dominant recently. What makes him so difficult to face?

DAVE ROBERTS: Velocity, one. He's got a good slider as well. We haven't seen him a whole lot. With his slider he missed it to the right side of the plate. He gets ahead. So I mean he's a talented young pitcher.

Q. What did you think of Max today?

DAVE ROBERTS: After that first inning I thought he was really good. That first inning, obviously just kind of trying to deal with the conditions and messing with his balance through the delivery, but after that I thought he was good. The changeup, the life to the fastball, the cutter, the slider was back, so he threw a heck of a ball game.

Q. You've talked about the Giants being a team of momentum. But for you guys how imperative is it to score first? During the regular season when you guys scored first you won each time, the nine times.

DAVE ROBERTS: It's important. It's important, but I don't want to say it's everything because if it doesn't happen then you still got to find a way to win.

But certainly I think that just the numbers speak to any team that gets a lead early, it increases your chances of winning a ball game. So tomorrow, whoever we run out there we got to put up a zero and try to score early.

Q. Shutout two of the three games so far. Is this, does this feel like the, kind of the feast or famine stretches that you went through during the season offensively?

DAVE ROBERTS: You know, I don't think so. I think that if you look at tonight, obviously the results we got shutout, but I do think that tonight there were some good at-bats, the Mookie at-bat, the line-out, the two balls that I thought were home runs. I thought we took some good at-bats and we just didn't get rewarded. So I don't think it's -- I thought, collectively I thought we did a nice job tonight. Better than kind of the goose eggs we threw out.

Q. Three different guys starting at first base over the past three games. What have you liked and with that everything on the table approach tomorrow what will you be looking for?

DAVE ROBERTS: Well, I don't know who is starting for them. I'm assuming, DeSclafani. Tonight, starting Albert, I thought Albert did a fantastic job, obviously getting a couple knocks. Souza came in later in that spot, got a base hit. So, as far as tomorrow, when you're trying to replace Max Muncy you've got to kind of piece it together for that spot. So like I said earlier, just because you start the game, you might not finish and trying to get the right matchups, so I got to think through it tonight, kind of contingent on the starter for tomorrow, but the guys at first base have done a nice job.

Q. You mentioned that Mookie liner. What did you see from Crawford on that play and then what was the reaction in the dugout?

DAVE ROBERTS: Yeah, really good at-bat, squared it up, Brandon was in the right spot and made an athletic play that we have seen time and time again. So I think that the reaction was frustration, I think, or, yeah.

Q. Considering the wind conditions and what you said about those two balls, how hard did Longoria hit it to actually get it out?

DAVE ROBERTS: Yeah, I mean, he got every bit of that ball. I know it was 0-2 it was a ball up in the zone, he put a great swing on it and I don't know what the exit velocity was, but it was a no-doubter, yeah.
