BNP PARIBAS OPEN

October 10, 2021

Jannik Sinner

Press Conference

J. SINNER/J. Millman

6-2, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Obviously at this point in the season, usually there is a lot of fatigue, it's been a long year. But there is still this big goal for you, making it to Turin. How much fatigue are you feeling at the moment, and how motivated are you by that goal?

JANNIK SINNER: Thinking about that goal, to be honest, I am not thinking about that at the moment, because there are still some big tournaments coming. There's here is big, Vienna as well, Paris.

So, no, fatigue, to be honest, I don't feel so much, because especially now, after the week in Sofia, we came here, we had basically one week, more or less. So, you know, I had time to prepare here, which today I think I played a good match against a very tough opponent.

So, you know, I'm just trying to be focused about every match what I play, every point I play, and then we see in the end of the year what's coming. But to be honest, I don't think so much about that. Obviously you know the position where I am, but I'm just trying to don't think about that, because, you know, every player who tries to go there, everyone gives 100%, everyone is playing well right now, so, you know, we see.

But, you know, I'm just happy that I played, you know, today the first-round match in a good way.

Q. Obviously you have achieved a lot so far in your young career. There has been a lot of talk of success with youngsters at the US Open with what we saw with Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez. Does that give you the belief that you could do the same on the men's side, or do you think it's different because they are on the WTA Tour?

JANNIK SINNER: Well, it's a tricky question. You know, I think it's great to see the new generation coming up. I think men's tennis, it's a little bit more difficult because, I mean, every player. Also, if you play against guys who are 60, 70 ranked, they are very, very tough to beat, which is also in woman's tennis, you know.

They had, both of them, they had an incredible run in US Open. Now I don't want to say what difference is between men's and women's tennis, for sure. But, you know, obviously we have, talking about from the men's side, we have a lot of great players, young players who are trying to improve, trying to play better day after day, and, you know, I think that what I'm trying to do is obviously to practice well, and then we see what's coming next.

But, you know, for sure I don't want to rush so much. I'm just trying, as I said before, trying to play match after match in the best possible way, and then we see trying to improve. Yeah, that's it.
