NL DIVISION SERIES: BREWERS VS BRAVES

October 11, 2021

Brian Snitker

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Truist Park

Atlanta Braves

Pregame 3 Press Conference

Q. Orlando was just in here talking about the energy that Guillermo creates. And you've talked about it -- there's always a lot of noise in that dugout. Do you ever hear any of it, and how much do you --

BRIAN SNITKER: No, I hear a lot of it. It's hard not to hear him. It's amazing how his voice carries. It's good. I mean, it's all good energy. I think it's great. It does keep guys going. And you can't help but laugh and it's infectious, and I love it. I love what he does in there.

Q. Have you thought about using Joc Pederson in certain lineups or will he be a matchups thing?

BRIAN SNITKER: No, kind of more the matchup thing. I know in the past if Joc's had really good numbers off somebody, we've put him in there.

Q. Does today's result influence who starts tomorrow?

BRIAN SNITKER: Yeah, we're still talking and kind of going over that, just seeing, again, how we get there. Yeah.

Q. And everything's in play, including Charlie on short rest?

BRIAN SNITKER: Yeah, I think everybody's in play.

Q. This time last year, there wasn't able to be a full crowd here at Truist Park. How important is it now to have this full crowd here at 1:00 especially in Game 3? How excited are the players and you?

BRIAN SNITKER: It's going to be great. Like I say the fans have been unbelievable all year in coming out supporting these guys. They appreciate it. Hopefully it will be wild out there, like we know it can be.

Q. Without going into the game plan too much, how would you like to see the guys approach Peralta this afternoon, a guy who keeps the ball in the yard? Would you like to see them take a lot, see a lot of pitches or continue --

BRIAN SNITKER: We're not that group. Just look, our guys come out, they swing. They're early count swingers. And I don't see us altering an approach. I mean, they do the video. They've got scouting reports. But they're looking to hit, that's for sure.

Q. This time last year we were talking about Ian Anderson making his first postseason start. Now he's got plenty of those, and he's making his first of this season. Where have you seen the growth, and what are you expecting from him?

BRIAN SNITKER: The kid's been very impressive. He was impressive as soon as he landed here last year and how he handled everything and his demeanor and how he processes things.

And I say he's an impressive kid. He's learned a lot this year, too, I think, this being his first full year as a starter. You don't surprise anybody. You have to make adjustments because people are adjusting to you. There's expectations that you have to deal with and the whole thing peeling layers to become a Major Leaguer. I think he's handled everything really well.

I hate that he had the little setback, but he's bounced back from that, and I think just continued to get better and better since he made starts since coming back.

Q. Did you have a preferred game time for today? I know the body clock has probably preferred a little later but the hitter's eyes maybe wouldn't love the 4:00 shadows?

BRIAN SNITKER: I don't know that how much the shadows this -- later in the year. I just know like during BP, as the days shorten up. It's what you do in this business is adjust and adapt to times.

So, it probably would have been a lot easier on these guys if they knew for sure it was a 1:00 start instead of the outcome of that game determining when the start was. I think that would have been better for them to know that. But they'll be fine.

Q. What did you tell those guys last night, to be, just to be aware of it themselves?

BRIAN SNITKER: We got -- Walt got his whiteboard and we had two different scenarios that we sent yesterday afternoon. And I know Lovey sent out an e-mail after the fact. So they were going to have to be aware -- pretty much set two alarms, one probably about 12:30 if they fell asleep to see who won that game, and then adjust the second one pretty much. But we sent two different, totally different scenarios to them depending on the outcome.

Q. Heaven forbid the game had gone like the Boston game had gone.

BRIAN SNITKER: Yeah, I know. I said, when you get up to go to the bathroom at 12:30, 1:00 o'clock, you better check your phone. And, too, it's a Monday workday. It's not easy to get in here, as I'm sure you all saw, early because like all of a sudden we're on a spring training schedule a little bit.

Q. Was that kind of unique or kind of annoying? Would it have been better just to know when you were going to play?

BRIAN SNITKER: Yes, absolutely it would have. It's something that happens and we'll adjust and we'll be fine. But I think it's always better I think to know. I sat with Bobby yesterday for a little bit and asked him if he had experienced anything like that in all the years he went through playoffs. And he couldn't remember anything.

Q. How was the conversation with Bobby? What's he saying to you watching --

BRIAN SNITKER: He's excited. He's excited and watching all the games. It's funny, like, first and second, all the time. (Laughter).

Pam said he's been watching all the games, hanging in there. But it was good. He was all excited and jacked up about everything, that's for sure.
