AL DIVISION SERIES: ASTROS VS WHITE SOX

October 9, 2021

Luis Robert

Chicago, Illinois, USA

Guaranteed Rate Field

Chicago White Sox

Workout Day Press Conference

Q. Hey, Luis, what about the way that you guys played yesterday regardless of what the final score gives you confidence going into tomorrow?

LUIS ROBERT: We played a good game yesterday. Ultimately, score all the runs, and now it's just to keep playing hard. Try to go out tomorrow and do our best and see if we can get a better outcome.

Q. I think YoƔn was the one who said yesterday before Game 2 you guys are focusing on doing everything the same way you guys have all season. Is that still the case as you guys face potential elimination, and do you think that will serve you well tomorrow?

LUIS ROBERT: Yes, I think, you know, we have to keep playing the way that we've been playing all season. Tomorrow we'll have to find a way to win the game. I don't know what way that is, but we have to find a way to win the game and try to -- to keep it alive for us.

Q. Luis, if you remember back to last year, were you nervous going into the third game of that series, and how do you feel about that this time around? Is it okay to have some nerves? Does it get you going a little bit?

LUIS ROBERT: I feel good. I feel the same way I've been feeling, you know, throughout the whole year, and, you know, honestly, the same way that I feel before every game. Tomorrow is probably the most important game of the season for us, but nothing changed. Tomorrow I just have to get playing and feeling the same way and trying to find a way for us to win the game.

Q. Luis, what's helped you feel so consistent at the plate in the series? (Speaking Spanish)

LUIS ROBERT: I've been patient, and I've been able to recognize the pitches, and I think that's been a key. I haven't been swinging pitches out of the strike zone. I haven't been chasing pitches. That's been key for me.

Q. What's your relationship like with Yordan Ɓlvarez, and what's it been like to watch him and the success he has had?

LUIS ROBERT: We have our very good relationship and a friendship. The first teams that I played with, he was there. It was in Mexico that we played together, and you know, we've been close since that time. Seeing him right now having the success with him right now is something that makes me feel good because he is a friend.

Q. Luis, you performed pretty well so far in your postseason experience. It's only five games. Obviously, the last two have been a little bit different atmosphere than last year, but do you find anything different about your focus on the situation in the postseason?

LUIS ROBERT: I think that during the season because it's all of the season. Also the players were not out of focus all the time. There are some at-bats that you don't feel, like, 100% locked in, but that changed during the postseason because you know that the stakes are higher. Then you have to keep your focus high all the time. You have to be locked in all the time, and I think that's why the reason I have.

Q. Coming back from the game last night and traveling or today, have you, your teammates had conversation on what you guys need to do to be able to come back in the series, or is the effort level you had yesterday just -- is it just about doing that?

LUIS ROBERT: The only talk we have is we have to go game by game, you know. There's nothing else we can do. It's a do or die, and then we have to go day by day, game by game.

Q. Luis, what's it been like to play behind Dylan Cease this year, and what kind of feeling do you guys have knowing that he is taking the mound tomorrow?

LUIS ROBERT: We feel confident with all of our starters on the mound, that's going to be tomorrow starting for us, and we feel very confident with him, and, you know, it's no different having him or having any of the other guys.

THE MODERATOR: Thanks for coming in, Luis. See you tomorrow.
