NL DIVISION SERIES: GIANTS VS DODGERS

October 8, 2021

Tommy La Stella

San Francisco, California, USA

Oracle Park

San Francisco Giants

Postgame 1 Press Conference

San Francisco Giants - 4, Los Angeles Dodgers - 0.

Q. Off the bat, did you know that you had a shot at stopping that ball and did you, what's the thought process as you're trying to figure out how you're going to get the ball to Crawford and decide on a backwards flip from your glove?

TOMMY LA STELLA: Yeah, it was, I think initially, I haven't watched it, but I think initially I broke to the bag and he went for the ball and then we kind of switched as I was much closer to it.

But he made that play. That's a really difficult read on his part to go for the ball and then to redirect his momentum to find the base on a high flip and then still turn it. It was pretty awesome.

Q. When you get the ball to him and, in your mind, are you thinking, I just got to get it to him, and you know Crawford's going to do it?

TOMMY LA STELLA: Pretty much, yeah, he'll do the rest. Just get it anywhere near him and he'll do it.

Q. Did that throw impress you? Is there anything about that that makes you say, oh, Brandon that was impressive?

TOMMY LA STELLA: I mean, he does it so frequently, at this point for him it's routine, for anybody else it would blow your mind, but he makes that play 10 times out of 10.

Q. Do you practice that backwards flip from your glove? Is there any way you can practice that at game speed?

TOMMY LA STELLA: I mean, maybe not at game speed necessarily, but, yeah, I definitely work on some glove flips everyone once in a while. I wouldn't say it's a focal point, but have it if you need it.

Q. What's it like to have Logan Webb step up and deliver like this, a big moment, obviously against defending champions? What does it mean to you guys to see him do that?

TOMMY LA STELLA: It's awesome. Just to see him really coming into his own this season, really the maturation right before our eyes is so cool, and he's totally comfortable in himself, totally confident in his stuff and it's shown.

Q. This has been a kind of a difficult year for you physically with your health, so now at this point in the season, it almost seems like you've been rested and ready for this moment. So how are you feeling physically and how fresh do you feel out there?

TOMMY LA STELLA: I feel fine. I mean, it definitely feels like October. Everybody is pretty much going through that. But more or less I feel okay.
