NL DIVISION SERIES: GIANTS VS DODGERS

October 8, 2021

Kris Bryant

San Francisco, California, USA

Oracle Park

San Francisco Giants

Postgame 1 Press Conference

San Francisco Giants - 4, Los Angeles Dodgers - 0.

Q. You've been part of so many postseason series in the past. How important is it to take Game 1 and what did you think of Logan's performance tonight?

KRIS BRYANT: Yeah, it's, I mean, crucial, especially in a five-game series.

So, yeah, we came out there and took care of business. But, yeah, Logan, the star of the day, night, he, I mean, I'm so impressed with him. His first playoff experience and he was just out there pretending like it's a game in the backyard. It was really fun to watch. Really fun.

Q. What was, can you just describe what the playoff atmosphere was like in the park tonight?

KRIS BRYANT: It was great, as I expected. I mean, our fans here have been great all year, and tonight was another level too with the towels going everywhere, just black T-shirts everywhere.

But, yeah, we're going to need them the rest of the way. It's a huge advantage when they're out there on our side and being as loud as they can, and I'm glad we came through tonight for them.

Q. Obviously a lot of build-up to this series, a lot of discussion. What was it like to go up 2-0 pretty much right away. Was it exhale, lightning of anything?

KRIS BRYANT: Yeah, I don't know. I don't really know how to describe it. I guess it just, anytime you can kind of get those nerves and jitters out of the way with an early lead, it's great.

And Buster obviously being in plenty of postseasons before knows what he's doing out there. And I'm bummed it didn't get into the bay there. I mean, I heard there's no righty that's ever done it. So that would have been cool if he did that.

But great start to the game, and Logan just took over from there.

Q. How much did you benefit from having these past four days off. It seemed like you had a nice little reset there for you.

KRIS BRYANT: Yeah. Great. All of us too. Sometimes those extended breaks can kind of go either way. I've seen it. People sweep the Division Series, and you got a long break, and it might not go your way in the CS.

But I think everybody came out ready to go, rested mentally and physically. I know I felt that. That was a huge advantage for us.

Q. With the double play that Tommy and Brandon turned early in that game, once La Stella got a glove on it, was there any doubt that they were going to turn it, or have you seen that movie enough times that it almost feels routine?

KRIS BRYANT: Honestly, I thought it was getting up the middle and I thought that was a big turning point in the game. What was it, one out? I can't remember.

But, yeah, if you got first and second coming up, you know, just an opportunity for them. But that was a huge play for Tommy to have the whatever to do that, I mean, and then obviously Craw coming across the bag there definitely a nice SportsCenter Top 10 play, I think.

Q. Back to the atmosphere. Having been through 2015, 2016 in Wrigley, does it compare, I mean, considering the weight of history on those years and what did you there?

KRIS BRYANT: Gosh, I mean, it feels like forever ago those years. Maybe I didn't do enough to really soak in that atmosphere, that was a pretty special atmosphere. But each year is different and I just think with fans not really being able to come to the field or stadium last year for, I mean they were there in the playoffs, but it wasn't the same. I think they're ready to go and ready to let out some of whatever was pent up from not even being able to come to the field last year, so it was nice to see them out there. Like I said, we're going to need them the rest of the way and they were the 10th man tonight and that was huge for us.
