AL DIVISION SERIES: ASTROS VS WHITE SOX

October 7, 2021

Jose Abreu

Lance Lynn

Houston, Texas, USA

Minute Maid Park

Chicago White Sox

Postgame 1 Press Conference

Astros - 6, White Sox - 1

Q. Jose, can you kind of describe what you've been through the last few days and how you're feeling right now?

JOSE ABREU: It's been difficult. I don't really understand why this is happening, but it's part of life. I have to keep going.

Q. How do you feel, and how difficult was it to play today?

JOSE ABREU: If I tell you that I'm feeling 100 percent, I would be lying to you, but you know what, I have to recognize that the training staff that we have, they've done a good job with me. The fight today, because the commitment that I have with this team, I have to give my best to this team every day. It doesn't matter how I feel or how many days I went without playing. It was important for me and for the team for me to play today.

Q. Jose, after the way things went today for you guys, what is the feeling in the clubhouse, and what is your message to the team as you guys move forward in this series?

JOSE ABREU: It's part of the game. I think when you play a game, you have a 50 percent chance to win or lose. I'm the kind of person that, when we lose, I like to focus on the positive. I think everybody tried their best today. We get value in fighting.

But we also have to recognize the work that the Astros did. Their pitcher was good, and they did a good job. We'll focus on tomorrow now.

Q. Lance, Tony was mentioning that you weren't really pleased after the game with your selection or pitch sequence. Talk about that and then also just your overall start.

LANCE LYNN: It wasn't good. I wasn't making pitches when I needed to. I gave up some two-out runs on pitches that could have been better. When all is said and done, I just wasn't making the quality pitches I needed to. That's pretty much it.

Q. Lance, that's a really good lineup obviously over there. What makes the Astros such a tough lineup to get through?

LANCE LYNN: They're just deep. They battle. They don't strikeout. They pick and choose times when they want to be aggressive. That's why they've had the success they've had in recent years. From top to bottom, they don't make it easy on you.

Q. Lance, when it comes to not going to the secondary pitches as much, does that go down to game planning or adjusting mid-game or something else?

LANCE LYNN: I used all my pitches today. I just didn't hit my spots when I needed to.

Q. Jose, what made McCullers so tough today to really get anything going?

JOSE ABREU: That's because he's one of the best in the league. I mean, he's in the majors.

Q. Jose, did you see anything in the last couple innings at-bats to kind of provide encouragement or see the team working the counts in a way you know it will go well tomorrow?

JOSE ABREU: That's what I was talking about when I was trying to look at the positive of this game. I think in the last few innings we showed the kind of offense we have, the kind of offense we've been carrying throughout the whole season, and hopefully we can carry that for tomorrow.

Q. Jose, with the way you said you're feeling, how do you approach tomorrow's game? Do you even think about first base? Is that even a possibility? How do you think about it for tomorrow?

JOSE ABREU: Right now, I just need to rest and get better. As soon as I wake up tomorrow, I will see what we can do tomorrow.
